The Market House Inn, Glastonbury
Now I am spending more time in the area and having visited some of the other pubs in Glastonbury, this is definitely the best.
Landlord & lady both very friendly, staff are excellent and you can�t fault the beer. I was tempted to try the �jager-bombs� these are not for the fainthearted, I am no longer a student and I will probably stick to the ale from now onwards�. But if that sort of thing attracts you, they are good value
Can�t wait for the kitchen to re-open as my wife and her sister ate here last September and enjoyed an excellent lunch in the bar. There was no space in the restaurant because it was full of lib dem councillors and the Chairman of Somerset County Council. Sister in law recognises the local dignitaries
But until then the free BBQ is a great idea�. Until the new chef arrives
The plot of the ongoing saga thickens and I�m intrigued that m_souris has taken up the cause. M_souris, I�m not sure if I agree with your judgment that hoonkerama seems to have created another �self�= proboozer� the terminology appears to give him away, but my money might go on the_ final_arbiter Perhaps you have been subjected to some private messages from hoon, so you know more than me � I did and he definitely has a hidden agenda, but it�s obvious that the FA & Proboozer have too. Hoon claimed to be a local politician, if that helps anyone who might be interested in unmasking him. If your curiosity has been tweaked try ear-wigging over a pint at the Mitre, (which incidentally serves very good beer and is just a gentle stroll from back of Market House into their garden) You might pick up a bit more info as they too have been the unhappy recipients of derogatory comments.
To the uninitiated, who might be put off by the volley of reviews;
DO NOT BE FRIGHTENED OF VISITING GLASTONBURY,
I haven�t met any people in Glastonbury who openly exhibit the symptoms of multiple personality disorder, so hopefully the ones who contribute so frequently to this site reserve this behaviour for their cyber world . Now that I know more about the town, I suspect that those types lurk around with qm�s consort, therefore�.
You�ll be safe in the Market House as they exclude anyone who behaves anti-socially or irrationally.
Too much for one day, need to get back to reality and a good pint at the Market House.
PS my wife still thinks that there are malevolent forces afoot; a la Midsomer Murders, so be warned, do maintain your anonymity and bearing in mind her occupation, don�t be surprised if you see this sort of thing as a plot or sub plot on a TV near you soon. She�s definitely including the artwork, which she loves and, judging from recent posts, it seems to have hit a nerve with the �socially inept�!!!!!!!!!

Well I came back again and am glad to report that the Old Speckled Hen on tap is excellent.
They have lots of things on for Bank Holiday, BBQs, special drinks and more easy chairs in the garden.
Having read a few of the older posts about this pub - I finally plucked up the courage to ask about the allegations against the Landlord, David. Just so 'torsteve' and 'hoonkerama' can get their facts straight, the guy is a very regular person, who during the course of his duties had to prevent - and I now quote his wife �TWO ALCOHOL & DRUG ABUSING, FERAL, FOUL-MOUTHED, DELINQUENT, LIEING, BRAZEN HARPIES� from entering the premises. The under-age harpies accused him of assault and he went through the harrowing process of it being investigated, and going to trial at the local magistrate�s court and guess what, as of Tuesday April 27th, he�s NOT GUILTY. Lets hope they get their come-uppance soon�.
I wonder if �torsteve� or �hoonkerama� are related in some way to the aforementioned harpies. It certainly seems that they have a whole different agenda, not interested in good beer, just spreading scurrilous, false and utterly poisonous rumours.
Not the sort of people one would want to bump into when enjoying a good pint. The notice by the front door does say they are specifically banned from entering. So it looks like the Market House is the safest place to visit when in Glastonbury, as you can be pretty sure the miscreants won�t be favouring the market house with their company. The locals that I met were very welcoming and also very supportive of David, who runs their �local.� It has a great atmosphere and is well worth a visit
� and the artwork is in �pristine�, or should that be 'pisstine' ? or �latrine�? condition.

Called in as we were in area again.
Ale excellent and dry blackthorn back. Staff still friendly.
Recliners in garden are useful addition. The special offer on spirits (�1.00 a shot) makes the odd g&t more enjoyable and the Pimms was perfect.
This is very good place to visit when in Glastonbury. We were going to do a mini crawl but the chairs were too comfortable and the company too friendly but perhaps next time�.

What a great idea for the summer.
I thoroughly approve of the new artwork in the Men�s w.c. Having been on the receiving end of one of the miscreants comments, both public and private, I concede that the direct approach is the best. I have perfected my aim, and what a relief!!
We will visit again asap and recommend this to anyone wanting a good palce to visit in Glastonbury.

Really good atmosphere, Thatchers Gold was very drinkable, great garden, which is very well cared for. Good landlord, perhaps I'll make it my local and improve my italian but I suspect a lot of the words he comes up with would not be 'suitable' for polite Italian company. It's refreshing to enter a pub and feel almost immediately one of the crowd.
Isn't that how it's supposed to be?
Worth a visit if you are in Wells

I have used this site to find good places to visit when I am out and about for some time but have only just started to do reviews as I now have a bit more time
I tell it as I find it and am sorry is this offends you, hoonkerama
and so to your post... the significance to The Market House Inn of police and ambulance in Magdalene Street on a Friday evening is????.............................

The Market House Inn, Glastonbury
Excellent ale; Adnam's Broadside on tap, well presented and perfect temperature. Good price at �2.50pint - April special offer, so staff advised me not to expect it always to be this cheap.
Nice garden, part covered and safe place for bikes.
Staff very helpful and knew their stuff about real ales although shame there was only one on tap. My companions enjoyed their lagers and extra cold Guinness, all well served, manager obviously takes good care of their lines.
Main building clean and comfortable, but plain furniture, but then this is an Enterprise Inn, and anyone knows how they cripple their tenants with excessive rents and high beer prices.
WCs clean and well disinfected.
They do rooms at reasonable prices but kitchen not open yet for season - staff say its because of the recession and as we settled for the snacks I can understand
Passable, and fresh made cheese and tomato sandwiches, went down well before we pedelled off to Wells.
If you visit; sign their petition to end the Beer Tie!! then perhaps everyone can resume selling ale at �2.50/pt
Definately worth a re-visit and am planning a crawl as there appears to be other good pubs within easy stroll/pedel in the Town centre, so watch this space......

Just been done up.
Good beer, well presented, pleasant staff. Top marks for new clean wcs. Garden good and a nice place to enjoy a pint after a long but flat cycle over the levels.
Worth a visit and apparently the food is pretty good too.

The Eel Pie, Twickenham
Good place to visit if you're in Twickenham. Service good and although normally busy, we have always managed to get a good seat.
Recommend a visit, if you're in the area. Badger Bitter good choice.
