The Heathcote, Leytonstone

Always use the Heathcote when the O's are at home.A good old east end pub that serves up a good pint of guinness, and can always find a somewhere to sit. It's a old boozer thats slightly worn round the edges, and all the better for it.

The Grafton Arms, Kentish Town

Agree with some of the below, both positive and negative but this is the Pub I use if I'v got a day off during the week. They do a good happy hour (12-4) so you can while away an afternoon and allmost have change out of 20.Sure it feel's a little tired and worn around the edges, not unlike we the patrons. But if your looking for that cliche an old fashion boozer come along.

The Prince Edward, Holloway

only used this place for a solitary drink in the afternoon when I have a day off work on a weekday,a real wee oasis, seems miles away from it"s actual location, has the feel of a back street pub thou it"s located on the main Parkhurst Road just a few minutes away from Holloway Prison.A couple of tv"s,a decent juke box(like to blast out Dylans, Like a Rolling Stone)every now and then and also a decent pool table.

The Parrs Head, Camden

popped in here on Sunday afternoon on the way back from Sainsburys, for a couple of pints.Very old school place everyone seems to know each other,it has a rather well worn charm to it.The only thing going against was thou they were showing a Celtic game on tv, the sound was off but they had Magic FM blasting out of the speakers.I could not work this out, would have considered going back, but the tv versus radio was a real distraction.....

The Bull and Gate, Kentish Town

A real Jekyll and Hyde of a pub, well on a Saturday anyway.I like to spend a whole afternoon, with my head in the guardian while drinking one of the best kept Guinness in North London.Even though there"s usually a tv on for the horse racing, the pubs big enough to find a wee nook and not be distracted too much if thats what you want.A pub with a community feel to it with a regular clientele who are welcoming bunch,a real nice vibe all round. Then round about 6 o clock on Saturday gig nights it seems to be handed over to the kids, and we oldish codgers make way.

The Birkbeck Tavern, Leyton

only use this on match days, and a real gem it is.Even when packed the bar staff are able to tend to everyone without much trouble.Welcoming to away supporters as well, not wanting to sound like a old hippy, but a nice vibe....

The Nags Head, Belgravia

Barry the old guy was indeed the landlord, and to be honest thats one of the reasons I like the Nags Head, the mobile phone ban.I can appreciate you were not using your phone for conversation, and it can seem rather rude the landlords manner.Even a regular myself can find his manner at times a bit brusque, but I do value his intention, it"s refreshing to drink in a pub that seems to be in a bit of a time warp, in encouraging people to interact.I hope you will give it another chance ,and they do keep some of the best guinness in London.

The Oxford Bar, Edinburgh

a great little pub, spent a couple of hours in here each day I was in Edinburgh visting a couple of gallerys.Good to use as a pit stop,no music in the background and told the tv was only switched on if there was a sports event, worth while to be watched.A good guinness, nice staff, and didnt seem to be anything wrong with the toilets.

The Golden Lion, Camden

a wee gem of a pub, a mix of locals, near by workers and the occasional lost tourist and all made to feel welcome. One of those pubs that people say are so hard to find,a real old fashioned boozer,a pool table,a discreet television and a great pint of guinness and well mannered attentive bar staff.my one quibble (is there such a thing as a perfect pub remember all gems do retain a slight flaw) is the erratic volume control of the juke box one minute back ground music the next heart attack alert.maybe this is just a way to keep old soaks like me on my toes,if your in the area pop in.

The Chequers, St James's

for such a small pub it seems to have a lot of staff, who appear whenever the landlord exits and treat it as a canteen come social club.I understand the poor dears have to eat but not to the detrimement of service to the customer. Also if someone could fix the door which remains open whenever someone enters or exits, this will stop the rolling of eyes and black looks from the locals on unsuspecting visitors.Oh and can someone show the staff how to pour a guinness apart from this not a bad little pub.

The Marquis of Granby, Cambridge Circus

a gem of a pub in the heart of London, can cater for all, be it quiet solitary drink on a week day afternoon or the bustle of the evening with regulars rubbing shoulders with tourists and the theatre crowd, even when they"re showing the big celtic games on a sunday afternoon this pub always retains somehow the feel of a local.Big Ritchie the manager stands no nonsense runs a tight ship with his crew of competent bar staff, and for me the best guinness in London.
