A lovely little place and as good a pint as I've had. Cracking fresh guest ales, and a lovely atmosphere. The interior is perfectly kept, faultless all round

Back again and much improved. Bombardier in top nick. Barman John does an outstanding champagne cocktail. TV Sports with no sound, unintrusive and well-balanced music, nice mixed crowd on Saturday afternoon. Jolly Farmers is better for ale, but this is within striking distance of the station. 6 months on, it's a great addition to Lewisham, especially for those uninclined to hit Blackheath for its crap beer & food.

The monty is the best. I see from the reviews that we've been worrying about its popularity ruining it for 30 years, since the old standup comedy albums were recorded and the Saturday band were young. I've been going for 5 years & just noticed the glass-fronted coffin by the bar. My absolute favourite and rivalled for clutter only by the Canny Man's in Edinburgh.
I'm quite sure it will remain unchanged as the "in-crowd" can't take the walk from the station. If you visit one pub in London before you die, make it the Monty.

The Jolly Farmers (ex jordan), Lewisham
Love Lewisham hospital.
Love the Jolly Farmers.
The friendly locals are hospital staff, so if one of them breaks your leg, just laugh.
The best Speckled Hen I've had in London and gingery, caramelly Sharp's straight from the cask.
Fresh, perfect ale, great staff, lovely atmosphere. Love the small telly- if you want noise & footy, the Fox is 2mins away.
Food- no idea but if it poisons you you're in good hands etc etc.

This place is great. The beer garden is now a lovely restaurant with quite outstanding Thai food at sweet prices, and you can get your own drinks from the bar. And keep your seats after eating. We were serenaded by punters & staff & eased out in no hurry through swathes of trailing flowers. Loads of well-kept Belgian beers- I have to admit I didn't try the bitter.A green gem of a pub.

Just reopened as"one"(sigh). Very nicely turned out, classy pub grub (steak sandwich etc not gastropub gubbins), serving Broadside. And here the tale ends. Rude, ignorant, lazy barman denies amoebic cause for strong, vinegary stink of ale to me & older gent from council office nearby(!) Sack him & sort out your cellar or wave goodbye to your investment. Could be a real find if the nice, knowledgeable barmaid is given a crack at the whip...

The New Cross House, New Cross
This is a great pub. The ales are very good and unusual, including some brewed at a sister pub. They're about 3.50 or so, I think. The outdoor area is lovely, and the staff are very polite and enthusiastic.
I loved the old Tavern and was so disappointed with the refurb- a few of us went once and never returned. The New Cross House makes up for that. I can't wait to try the pizza- it's like being 6 and having Disneyland opening next door.
