Large mock victorian pub next to Playhouse Theatre. It's only 15 years old but was very well fitted-out and actually looks like a real victorian pub.
Survives on coach trippers going to shows next door. (VERY busy for the 2 hours before each show so probably best avoided then)
Otherwise during the day it's a pleasant, well run pub, walls covered with theatre posters, two real log fires in winter, serves food all day, free newspapers. But not cheap.
Haven't been in after 9pm but I think they turn up the music and cater for the younger crowd then.

This was known as the Waterfront Wine Bar until a disastrous "makeover" a couple of years ago.
It used to have lovely old wooden booths and tables and a couple of small
cosy backrooms . Highlight was the lengthy, reasonably priced winelist.
There is a dining area at the back.
A very popular bar, it was often packed out with no tables to be had.
But then somebody decided to "improve" it. Out went all the old oak booths, in came a large flatscreen TV blaring out, and tables and chairs which looked like they had come from IKEA. Out went the old winelist to be replaced by short bog standard pub winelist. My jaw dropped when I walked in !
Haven't been back !

Surprised by the previous reviews but it has had several owners since I first popped in about 10 years ago.
This is a very cosy little pub and it's often hard to find a seat.
Was last there a couple of times at Xmas, very friendly service, decent selection of wine.
Well worth a visit if you're down that way.

Went to this pub on and off for over 20 years until that is the
disastrous "upgrade" a couple of years ago.... prices went through the roof and most regulars decamped to more congenial surroundings. Popped in before Xmas to see if there had been any improvement but if anything it's worse.
Main problem seems to be the "manager" who appears to regard customers as a nuisance and will quite happily ignore newcomers who dare to enter his domain. In fact his basic social/pub skills are so poor it makes you wonder what on earth he is doing in the licensed trade in the first place.
Pub survives nowadays on elderly, wealthy locals who don't appear bothered by sky high prices and crap service. Be warned! if you're under 65 you will probably be the youngest person in the place !
All in all a great shame as this used to be a lovely friendly watering hole but
is now about as much fun as an evening spent in the TV lounge of an old folk's home.
Well worth avoiding until it gets a proper landlord who knows how to run a pub.

The Waterline, Leith
Popped in here a few times over the years. Was in just after Xmas, very comfortable little bar, wood burning stove in the front. Dining area in the back.
Last had a meal about 2 years ago, remember it was pretty good.
Staff very friendly. Only criticism I would make is the wine list is not good enough ( too short and basic for a pub/restaurant).
