The Post Office Vaults, Birmingham

Apart from the size of the pub (very small) the place is a gem! A great selection of beer from all across the country & from abroad (Take a look at the pubs menu and it's enough to make you drool). Pub doesn't sell much in terms of food, but will allow all punters to bring in their own food. For a small pub I have never had a problem getting served, the staff seem very quick and always serve with a smile. I've been in there countless times already but if you pay Birmingham a visit, you have to pop in for a visit.

The Thurlestone, Northfield

My local! It's had problems over the years but I would call it a very friendly pub, much better run as opposed to 5 years ago, and there is the odd karaoke and live act every few months in the lounge. Football scarves and shirts up on the walls and the pub is good to go to for a bit of footie banter, in a mixed Blues & Villa area. I usually drink bottles (Old Peculiar or Newcastle Brown) but the Banks's Mild is pleasent. I've had many good nights in the place over the last few years.

The Woodpecker, Northfield

Never once had a good pint in the place. The gaffers and the punters seemed a friendly bunch but wouldn't recommend the place for the beer.

The Craven Arms, Birmingham

Great beer, great food, great atmosphere, just great. Not far away from the Mailbox so it's very easy to find. The Craven has just run a beer festival with a fine selection of London beers, also a good Ale from Wrexham called Melyn Golden Bitter. The Craven is so good infact, I go there often so of course my review is biased. But for those who haven't yet been, I highly recommend you visit.

Furnace Inn, Derby

I travelled to Derby in November 2012 for the Derby v Birmingham match. The match was a 5:20 kick off so we got into Derby around 10:00am to do a big pub crawl. As we approached the Furnace Inn I had a good look around the estate and had a feeling that the pub was going to be awful.

How wrong I was!! The pub is an absolute gold mine with some fantastic beers on offer, including Churchend beer. The landlord was very polite and friendly and even give us a "tour" of the pubs back garden and told us the plans he has for the place. Despite the area and the distance from the station, I would love to pay another visit.

The Wellington, Birmingham

A cracking pub, great staff and punters but more importantly, the BEER is top notch! The pub is going through some refurbishments at this moment in time so a few of the taps are not in use, but there is still a fantastic selection of beer on offer. I can't help but lick my lips when I see whats on offer on the board. I've introduced a fellow work colleague to this pub and usualy this is the first pub we go in straight after work on the last Friday of every month. Sometimes we decide to have one, but the chances are we end up legless because it is quite a hard place to leave, even though there are some other cracking Ale pubs within a 5 minute walking distance. Just brilliant and can't wait when the pub is all done up.

The Lamp Tavern, Birmingham

Great Ales, friendly landlord and jolly punters. I can't say a bad word about this pub. To date I have visited this pub twice and on both occasions I have found it hard to leave. I often have a big "ales sesh" before Blues home matches. Up until a few months ago I never really given much thought or consideration going to the Lamp before matches and tended to stick more towards Birmingham City Centre (Wellington, Post Office Vaults, etc) and Digbeth High Street (The Anchor, Old Crown). For next season, The Lamp will be one pub that I will have to visit before home matches. Just a fantastic gem of a pub in the middle of an industrial wasteland.. 10/10
