Ha Ha Bar and Canteen, Muswell Hill
expensive. a pint of westons cider is about 3.40 - 3.60
nice but bring plenty of cash with you.

The Penny Whistle, Northampton
beer can be well dodgy sometimes.
been stung too many times with a bad stomach after drinking in here.
stick to the bottles now.
mind you if you are feeling brave and have one of their yellow cards its a pound a pint (i think its on a tuesday night)

yes the quays is no good if you take yourself too seriously.
it is what it is.
its not trendy.
its not full of "gangstas".
its not full of posers.
its music policy is odd and random and cheesey (the nights not complete unless you hear some RnB, the fields of athenry and whitney)
the age range is 18 - 80 (and sometimes higher).
you get hassled by illegal cab drivers who it is then obligatory to wind up by asking to go someplace far away, haggling them down to a low price for a good 10 minutes and then just walking away saying you had no intention of getting a cab anyway and you just wanted to waste their time.
but thats why its so good - there is no where else like it.
if you cant understand that im sure theres an oneils somewhere thats good for you.
and despite what "anonymous" says ive never seen any trouble in there.
the quays is great, you just dont understand it.
27 Jul 2006 20:38
no guinness can vary from place to place. usually down to exactly what boss hog said.
9 Jul 2006 17:34
good place to get some cheap beers down your neck before hitting a club.
the quality of beer can be a bit hit and miss though (it is a wetherspoons after all)
9 Jul 2006 17:23
yes its a complete hole and your shoes stick to the floor but its a great laugh. if it was any different it just wouldnt be dicys and we wouldnt love it as much.
you know you are on for a session when someone suggests "how about dicys?"
9 Jul 2006 17:21
ok, its not great but its good CONSIDERING that its an irish theme pub in central london.
its the best irish theme pub ive been (ok thats not saying much) but its better than oneils and all the other "oirish" places.
at least the guinness is drinkable, they show gaelic sport and the bar staff (most of them) are irish.
ok so all irish theme pubs are shit (they are a particular pet hate of mine) but its the best of a bad bunch and if you are in central london you can do ALOT worse (oneils for example).
for a decent irish pub check out the quays on holloway road. i love it!

Good pub.
i went on a weekday afternoon so wasnt too busy and had no problem getting a seat but it started to fill up quite quickly as the evening apparoached. id imagine it gets absolutly rammed at nights and weekends. didnt have any food but the menu looked good. a wide selection of seafoods etc which makes a difference from the usual pub grub of burgers and sausage and mash
staff were good polite and efficient.
decent guinness.
decor is nice. they actually show gaelic sport and have irish newspapers (or i think they might be london based irish newspapaers, at the bar to read.)
alot better than other "oirish" pubs
(Oneils im talking to YOU! - just saying you're irish doesnt actually make it so!)
is a tad on the expensive side (but its in town so thats to be expected).
its a black hole for mobile phone coverage though (which is an absolute pain cos i was meeting someone there and had to keep popping outside to phone them and give them directions). so if you are meeting people there make sure you have your times and directions sorted out before you get there.
good overall.
30 Jun 2006 12:18
good pub if you find yourself in rotterdam.
do a decent cooked brekfast.
had a band on one of the nights i was in there. great atmosphere.
didnt seem to be that many dutch people though. its in quite a good position to have a few pints in as a warm up before heading out into the near by clubs.
4 Apr 2006 19:26
yeah its a good craic. not sure how irish it actually is though! good laugh if you find yourself on the khoa san road. do decent enough food downstairs in the restaurant bit.
11 Dec 2005 17:44
seriously only worth going for the "so bad its good/ funny" factor.
9 Nov 2005 14:02
apaprantly cheekos is over 21s now. what the hell is the management thinking? there was about 10 people in it the other saturday night. when most of the people going to your club are under the age of 21 it seems a stupid idea to ban them all.
9 Nov 2005 14:02
the mcguire will be gracing the quays with his presence this coming saturday with any luck.
7.50 for a double vodka redbull. what a bargain!
its just not the same without the hansberry.
i am hoping to see some of the tully brigade down there.
9 Nov 2005 13:54
diceys is great! its full of fit women and has great music. alway a good laugh. GET INVOLVED!
27 May 2005 20:00
i asked for a jd and coke and a southern comfort and lemonade last weekend. i got a jd and lemonade and a southern comfort and coke.
mistakes happen i suppose.
whats with the guy in the toilets harrassing me to buy perfume?
(i mean cheekos not the archway tavern).
still love it though.
27 May 2005 19:49
dont know why its not more popular, its got wetherspoons prices in a decent pub.
8 May 2005 02:29
The Cherry Tree, North Finchley
has now been done up. called the purple rain bar or something
4 May 2005 13:18
really dont bother unless you like sean paul music and all the morons that come along with it
26 Apr 2005 09:28
The Torrington, North Finchley
they have only gone and turned it into a bloody starbucks! just what finchley needs (!) another poncy coffee place.
23 Apr 2005 12:48
they have turned it into an indian restaurant/bar type thing.
23 Apr 2005 12:45
sadam hussain is more irish. big slogan on the wall saying "the spirit of ireland". MY ARSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
14 Apr 2005 18:18
The Erris Tavern, North Finchley
to quote the streets "i wouldnt have it any other way"
14 Apr 2005 18:15
dont know if anyones mentioned this but you can see the autumn house in the film shaun of the dead. the electrical shop shaun works in is the one oppositte. If you look carefully you can see the autumn house in the background out of the window of the shop.
8 Apr 2005 14:52
was in there last night (sat). ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING! bar staff didnt have a clue. the guy serving me didnt know how to use the till. it was 4 deep at the bar, took about half an hour to get served. ended up having to buy 2 drinks at a time cos otherwise u would spend all night queuing at the bar.
have started selling pint bottles of magners but who cares when u have to queue for so long at the bar?
discraceful but the chavs are happy with it cos its cheap as chips and they can neck some voddy redbulls before going to a real pub.
absolutly discraceful!
3 Apr 2005 16:25
still closed. nothings being done with the building at the moment. heard from someone it is going to be a kfc. i hope that isnt true.
29 Mar 2005 22:30
The Cherry Tree, North Finchley
heard its going to be a restaurant. dont take that as definate though
29 Mar 2005 22:28
i love cheekos! i even went there on saturday night. they ran out of cider though.
of course im not from the old irish community that used to frequent the place. but neither are any of the rest of the scumbags in there. u have to face facts, its full of scum.
15 Mar 2005 11:27
The Cherry Tree, North Finchley
apparantly its being done up. lets hope its not as big a hole as it was before
28 Feb 2005 21:06
no longer a wetherspoons. which can only be an imporvement.
16 Feb 2005 19:25
problem with the student bar at kingston uni is its really rubbish. i always opted for the coronation or the rising sun for a couple of pints on the way home when i was at uni there rather than go to the union.
7 Feb 2005 16:20
the "undesireables" who drank in the now closed cherry tree seem to have migrated over to oneils.
7 Feb 2005 16:12
good pub, good pint, good tmosphere. hasnt been called clancys or olivers in a long time though.
7 Feb 2005 16:09
The Catcher in the Rye, Finchley
currently being done up. looks like its gonna be nice. hope it doesnt lose the "proper pub" feel in favor of a wine bar type thing.
7 Feb 2005 16:08
seems to be out of favour with alot of people lately. too many kids at the weekend.
4 Feb 2005 12:50
The Sixfields - Hungry Horse, Northampton
the meals are good and you get loads.
fairly cheap and near northampton football ground.
27 Jan 2005 20:18
not much personality. good for students out on the lash wanting cheap alcopops. not somewhere id particularly want to spend the whole night in, its more of a stop gap to get some cheap booze down my neck before a club
22 Jan 2005 19:58
theres a sign outside saying its closed for the festive period. what kind of pub closes over christmas and new year?
30 Dec 2004 20:30
used to be a cinema. its your bog standard wetherspoons. im not a fan but it does exactly what it says on the tin.
10 Dec 2004 17:18
cheekos is north londons premier nightspot.
you cant get any classier than burberry baseball caps, tracksuit bottoms and sean paul music. I LOVE IT!
i love it so much i went to central london last weekend and came all the way back to holloway road in a black cab just so i could go.
thought the fact that they ran out of pint glasses behind the bar was really classy.
also having to explain to a barman what a snakebite and black was made me feel that i had made the right choice of venue for my saturday night socialising.
top quality birds in there as well. when they speak to you its like the letters "h" and "t" and "g" dont exist in the english lanuage.
cheap women dressed in wares from top shop? dont be rediculous! they wouldnt shop in top shop, their giros and child support money cant stretch that far!
truely a wonderful night out (from a sociological experimental view).
7 Dec 2004 18:47
this is without doubt the finest pub to ever exist in the history of the world.
it attracts the finest clientele from north london and afar and has a brilliant music policy of having a live band and then playing the same cd every week.
for the past 3 years.
a pint of magners at 4.50, a double vodka and red bull 7.50. BARGAIN!
watch out for the dodgy cab drivers outside. a fun game after a night on the beer is to ask how much to go somewhere really far (southend for example) and then spend ages haggling with them. when u finally agree on a price just say "no i dont want it now" and walk off. you have had a laugh and wasted the time of a dodgy illegal cab driver in the process.
when approached about the illegal cab drivers outside by a fellow quays regular, a bouncer replied that it was "out of his jurisdiction". to which my fellow quays regular drinker forcably urged the bouncer to do something about the situation. he was then told again by the bouncer that it was "out of my juristiction".
if ur ever in holloway road check it out. if you enjoy cockenys singing irish rebel songs and being charged west end prices it'll be right up your street.
they should play the fields of athentry a bit more tho.
il see you there soon tully dear.
7 Dec 2004 18:36
this pub sucks donkey bars. i despise it! everything a pub shouldnt be. and will someone PLEASE start asking for ID in there!?
7 Dec 2004 18:24
yay! let me know when its reopening john. il be there with bells on!
7 Dec 2004 18:22
absolutely tiny to an uncomfortable degree. decent guinness and one of the few places you can get magners on draft. however if you are in central london you aint gonna wanna spend all night here. nice to start off with a few pints of magners and then head off to somewhere you can breathe (it really is small).
7 Dec 2004 18:17
a stop gap before you go into time and envy on a monday night.
7 Dec 2004 17:49
The Phoenix, Alexandra Palace
expensive and odd.
the beer is poor and there is little selection.
as previous commenters have said its ok if you are already in alexandra palace but i wouldnt bother otherwise.
it feels a bit like a railway cafe from the victorian times. doesnt feel like a pub at all.
