Cricketers, Blandford Forum

The best pub I've visited in ages. Joe & Sally are so friendly it's such a surprise in these days of making a quick buck. The meals and good and the menu is varied. Beers were excellent but can't remember the local pint I chose.

Parked before opening and was warmly greeted and one of the party was even loaned a hat for our walk.

The Black Horse, Crookham Village

In Oct 16 it had closed again. I think this might be the end for this village pub. Watch out for Tesco Express.

Drovers Inn, Gussage all Saints

Pub has now been opened again under local community ownership - well done people. Visited last night for a quick pint to add my support and it was very welcoming, my pint was probably from the Ringwood Brewery (not sure) and was good. Reasonable amount of parking and a beer garden out front with new shades, tables & chairs. Looked at the food menu which wasn't extensive but we need to remember the pub has only just opened and will need time to build up the menu to what sells to keep the place viable. The pub is tucked away in a small village, and might be a good stopping point on walks as the countryside around is stunning.

The Curlew, Bournemouth

Just moved to the area & I must agree with all the previous comments. It's not a drinking pub but an eatery. Staff seemed to be friendly and hard working but I only went in for a couple of pints with an old friend. Found a couple of comfy seats near the bar but there seemed to no other drinking tables, They assumed you wanted to eat. Interestingly after approx. 10pm the place is almost empty and some drinkers arrived (after football training) so this might be a good time to go. Drank Doom Bar which was excellent.

The Hoddington Arms, Upton Grey

Popped in at midday and was warmly greeted - always a good start. A couple of Harvey ales on offer and the party selected Hodd (made for the pub by Harveys). Meals were reasonably priced although the chicken main meal could have done with a few vegetables. Staff served beer straight to the table to save our old legs. Selected the left hand bar as we entered which has a limited number of tables (approx. 7) so get there early if you want that bar. Didn't check out the other eating area but looked good but a bit more formal (maybe evening dining). Good sized car park. Will probably return soon.

Had a few landlord changes recently and there must be pressure to increase sales - so use your local boozer or lose it. Friendly, good beers and staff that remember what your drinking so buying rounds makes you think you're a regular.

The Anchor Inn, Lower Froyle

Stop thursday midday halfway alone a walk. Arrived very wet but everyone was very welcoming. Had the King John ale and very nice it was. Service was with a smile and quick. Bar snacks are a bit pricey (ham, 2 eggs and chips 12) but the location and atmosphere makes it worth it.

Planning to return in the evening for a restaurant meal and will report back.

The Mill Inn, Bishmill

Had an evening meal here on 20 June. It's a lovely old fashioned pub; no TVs or music - ideal for enjoying a conversation with friends. Owners were very friendly and the meals were to a good standard and used local produce where possible. Locals use the pub so that's always a good sign. Drank a couple of Doom Bar which were excellent. Another local beer was on offer but can't remember the name. Will use again when down in Devon.

The White Lion, Yateley

Second year running we have used the restaurant for a Boxing Day family meal (to save cooking & get out). Although I basically agree with most comments posted, I can report that this years meal was delivered quickly and efficiently by helpful staff. It was a very busy day obviously but our complete party were impressed with the service.

The Phoenix Inn, Hook

Seems to be shut when I visited last night (19/2/09). Hopefully, but being ruined by changing the layout etc.

The White Hart, Eversley

Visited twice recently during mid week lunch times and been greated by friendly faces. Bar menu midday is a tad limited but acceptable. Good select of real ales in a traditional pub setting is just what I like e.g. no TVs or loud music etc. Ignore the negative comment must have been an off day.

Returned after an extended absence and I must say it has improved but you have to be lucky which night you drop in. Some nights it's really great but another it will be really loud - due to the low ceiling of the extension. Been a regular for about 20 years on and off. For the moment it's back on.

The Boot Inn, Houghton

Yes a lovely traditional pub but be warned the food & drinks are quite expensive. i.e. Ploughmans 9, pint of Ringwood & pint of soda & lime 7. You're paying for being in a pretty village and next to the Test.

The Fox, Ellisfield

Visited April 08 and found the staff very friendly, good selection of beers and the food at midday was excellent with good portions.

The Barley Mow, Winchfield

Midday lunch sampled yesterday - lamb curry over baked potato. Meat excellent - good value.

Fox and Hounds, Church Crookham

Best pub in Fleet. Yes, it might be like an old fashioned boozer but every area needs one. Staff are always friendly and you can talk with friends without the blast of TVs etc.

The Barley Mow, Winchfield

Builders are in and seem to be gutting the place. So lets hope it re-opens soon.

Pity that the new owners see fit to blast the customers with Sky Sports. It's had multiple managers in recent years, and unfortunately I'll stay away until it reverts to a real village pub. The smoking bad will have improved the atmosphere and hopefully the recent refurb will have removed the old sticky wooden seats.

The Blue Bell Inn, Dockenfield

Visited 17 Aug. Limited real ale but Tea was good. Only real complaint was the cost of two small lunches and two drinks - 17. Maybe the refurb bill needs to be repaid quickly. The interior was a little surprising, more like a wine bar but that's probably a personal view.
