Kings Arms, Barrow In Furness

Since Brian Clarke left this pub to manage the local Yates' emporium - a long time - the old place has been on a slippery slope. The last visit I made will be the last for a long time. Shame really because this was one of my old boyhood haunts.

The Furness Railway, Barrow In Furness

NOT YOUR TYPICAL JD WETHERSPOON BOOZER. THE STAFF ARE FREINDLY AND WILL TALK TO YOU IF THEY HAVE A MINUTE. BY FAR THE MOST POPULAR PUB IN THE TOWN, ATTRACTING A VARIED CLIENTEL. WOULD BE BETTER IF THE MANAGER JILL GOT RID OF SOME THE OLD CODGERS WHO SPEND ALL DAY DRINKING JOHN SMITHS AND MAKING THE PLACE SMELL LIKE AN OLD FOLKS HOME. BY THE WAY, A GOOD SELECTION OF REAL ALES CAN USUALLY BE FOUND. IF IN ANY DOUBT ABOUT WHAT TO TRY YOU CAN USUALLY ASK "COCKNEY BARRY" AT THE END OF THE BAR - HE'S THE EXPERT.

The Farmers Arms, Barrow In Furness

COULD BE A GOOD PUB IF THE LANDLORD GOT RID OF SOME OF THE OLD REGULARS WHO CROWD AROUND THE SMALL BAR AND WON'T MOVE FOR THOSE OF US WHO WANT TO BE SERVED. ALWAYS HAD A REPUTATION AS A CLIQUEY PUB AND THE LAST TIME I WAS IN, NOTHING HAD CHANGED!!

The Ambrose Hotel, Barrow In Furness

I was drinking in this pub when I was a lad and I can say that since June and Dave took over some years ago this pub has gone from a right s***hole where a session on their draft would leave you doing the bombay two step, to a very nice local pub that caters for a varied clientele. True Ashley can be a bit grumpy some times but the staff have always been friendly and helpful when I've called in. The food always looks good and the choice of beers on draft and in bottles leaves other Barrow pubs standing. Looking for a nice session? give "The Brose" a go.

The Kings Head, Earls Court

Got to stop coming here, but its hard not too. This place is getting better. Guv'nor mike is getting the bar area altered soon and there is even talk of the much anticipated fish tank making an appearence. New beers on too, try the Caines Lager or the organic cider - champion.

The Kings Head, Earls Court

The problem with most London pubs is that they have a tendency to be "tribal". You know, folks going out in groups where everybody knows everybody else and its difficult to break into a conversation and get to know new people. Not so with The Kings. Theres a good cross section from tourists visiting the area to locals who could be anything from street sweepers to city professionals. For most of the time you will find the locals friendly and welcoming. The staff are a cut above the usual, the choice of beers is good and reasonably priced for the area and the selection of bourbon is damn hard to beat. The Kings is undoubtedly the best ale house in Earls Court and probably the whole of K&C. See you in their!
