The Vulcan, Huddersfield

Went in with 4 friends on a Saturday afternoon. Not very impressed as the only bitter on was a rather watery Worthingtons.

White Hart, Cheadle

The only cask beer they had, was Boddingtons and it tasted awful. So bad was it, that I had to drink the John Smiths smooth.

Went in to watch the England v Ecuador game, but the place was almost empty, with little sign of many chavs.

The Didsbury Inn, Didsbury

It's more of a restaurant than a pub. Food is good for a pub and reasonable priced.

The Horse and Farrier, Gatley

Probably the best all round pub in Gatley. It's certainly the best one for food, and is where I will go for a long Sunday lunch with the family.

The beer is OK (not as good as the Gothic) but with its better decor etc it is aiming for a more upmarket crowd, and suceeds.

The Red Lion, Gatley

This is the nearest pub to where I live, yet I have only ever been in twice.

Inside it is a big open pub, but I tend to avoid it because it is the pub in Gatley where all the younger people go. Also they don't serve any real ales, just keg.

Gothic Bar, Gatley

The Caines beers make this by far the best pub in Gatley for 'drinking'. They usually have 3 different Caines bitters on as well as the Mild.

The pub itself is quite friendly, although most of the 'posh'locals tend to avoid it, due to how it looks.

The Marble Arch, Manchester

Probably the finest pub in Manchester.

They always have a wide selection of beers as well as a couple from their own brewery. The Ginger Marble being my own favourite.

It's a little bit out of the way, but well worth the 5 minute walk from Swan street.

The Smithfield Hotel, Manchester

It's a bit dark and dingy, but don't let put you off. If there is one pub that we always visit when in the Northern Quarter then this is it.

They always have a wide selection of beers and the regular Smithfield Bitter.

If the front door is locked (usually on a weekend, when there's a match on) just go to the side door and knock. When they ask if you're a hooligan, just say no.

Bar Fringe, Manchester

Recently re-opened after being closed for renovation, but the only difference I could notice was that the old 'Heiniken recycling' sign has gone from the toilets.

Still has a good selection of beers and in particular continental beers.

The Crown and Kettle, Ancoats

The Crown & Kettle has been renovated and reopened after being closed for around 20 years due to a fire.

There were 4 guest bitters and 1 Cider available, along with the two regulars beers of Black Sheep and Boddingtons.

The pub is in a lovely old listed building and was very bright and welcoming with friendly bar staff.

Well worth a visit for those who normally stick to their regular haunts in Northern Quarter, and is now on my list of favourites.
