The George and Dragon, Downe

I go here quite a lot. The Timothy Taylor's Landlord bitter is a real treat, and worth a try. However, the great thing about the pub (and all my family love it also - last ate here 20th November) are the homemade pies - real pastry all around and stuffed with meat etc - fantastic. Does get quiet at times as the previous correspondent says - tends to get busier 5 - 7pm and after 8:30pm !!!

The Maxwell Hotel, Orpington

Like the last correspondent, I foolishly gave the Maxwell a go on 5 December 2014 - mainly to see the band playing. The band were great, but the pub is sadly very poor. If it were not bad enough that local drunks fell on me, the landlord appears not to know anything about wine. I asked for a dry rose wine, and was given a SWEET wine !! Bad enough, but when I complained, the landlord stated "that was what you ordered" and walked away. Maybe a spot of customer service training is in order, but I doubt it will happen. I think I'll stay away - for ever !!!!

The Queens Head, Downe

Lovely country pub - won Bromley CAMRA pub of the year for 2014. Always has a Westerham ale or two on tap (the Summer Perle is to die for !!). Food is very good - ate there twice recently, and everything was piping hot and tasty

The Royal Oak, Orpington

This restaurant/pub has had a mixed past. Sometimes the food is fine, but we waited over an hour for our food one Sunday about a month ago - simply not good enough. Now I have seen how some of the staff are treated, this one is definitely off the list !

The Kings Head (Low House), Laxfield

Really enjoyed a cold December Saturday night here. Really friendly staff found four of us (+ dog) a table for eating even though they were full and we had not booked. Fantastic pies, and the beer was tip-top - I was even offered a glass to taste whatever I wished in the tap room

The Royal Oak Inn, Laxfield

A great village pub, serving superbly kept Adnams Southwold bitter. The food was piping hot and tasty - well certainly the Haddock I had was

The Bulls Head, Pratt's Bottom

Great village pub, run by an engaging and friendly landlord (Vernon). Has many events going on during the week, but my fav is the Jam night once a month. What a great way to spend an evening - playing rock'n'roll whilst downing a selection of fine ales. As a previous correspondent said, THIS is the way to run a village pub

The Cock, Hadleigh

Popped in here on 3 June while staying with a friend. Had a lovely chat to the new owners, who deserve to make this quaint old place a success. Popped back later for a couple of pints of Waggledance - beer was a bit cold -(but it was a hot day so welcome !!). On top of current real ales, they apparently will soon offer food

The Rose and Crown, Elmsett

If there is a better pint of Woodforde's Wherry in the locality, I've yet to find it. Had a couple poured straight from the barrel on 2nd June !!! Nice garden also

The Queens Head, Downe

I used to avoid this pub in the past. Not now though. New owners and lovely new decor make it worth a visit. I went midweek two weeks ago, and the Adnams was top notch and the food (home cooked I believe) very good. Makes Downe village a worthwhile place to visit again
