The Old Bull and Bush, North Hampstead

....

The staff are just as pretentious and unfriendly as before, the food is just as ridicilously expensive and the decor is like they slaughtered several zebras and just chucked their skins all over the place.

Its horrorific,

Luckily it no longer counts as a pub. Its now just resturant with beer taps.

If you want to go to a pub after a sunday afternoon on the heath, go to the Spaniards Inn....

The Holly Bush, Hampstead

Great little pub, Gets almost full on weeknights and completly packed on friday and saturday night. Friendly staff (which is becoming less and less common around North West London) and great food. The meals are on the pricy side but they are top notch.

The Old Bull and Bush, North Hampstead

Oh dear oh dear..... The old Bull and Bush.... what has happened to you.

While in its heyday the B&B was a friendly warm place it is now a souless shell of its former self. The bar staff seem to go out of their way to make life dificult for you. Drinks are taken away half full. Food is slow and the quality seems to rise and fall on a daily basis due to different chef shifts. Its had to explain the other element that drives me away from the Bull and Bush; you always feel like you are tresspassing on the landlords time and he'd feel alot happier if these damn customers didnt get in his way.

The Refectory, Golders Green

I happen to live up the road from this unsightly pub. It serves sub standard food in a shabby enviroment. The pool tables have been skinned so it feels like you are playing on a air hockey table. The piss they pass off as beer is cheapish but.... well....its piss. Suprisingly friendly and talkative bar staff are one of, if not the only, highlight of this dismal excuse for a water hole. Although I have to admit to have never having ventured downstairs into the night club (Klub Extreem), mainly due to its name, I have been informed that it is full of greasy men trying to dance, on a stickey floor, with the preeteen girls that hover around outside on a saturday night.

Spaniards Inn, Hampstead Heath

Right, there seems to be a lot of conflicting views on here. In my opinion the food is well above average in quality. Cheaper dishes seem to be over priced for what they are (i.e. pita and dips) while larger meals (such as the lasagna) are very cheap considering the portions. The selection of Beers and Ales isn't great but it has a decent Adnams Bitter along with over priced hoegarden. The interior is, as has been mentioned before, very dark with lots of nooks and crannies. Whether you perceive this as a positive or a negative I feel it lends very well to the overall atmosphere; on a weekday in winter it does feel very spooky and atmospheric. In the summer the garden is brilliant. Avoid being there in the afternoon, opting for a lunch or early dinner instead, to avoid the 4x4s and the annoying families. Late summer evenings under the heat lamps with all your mates can be brilliant. The younger bar staff aren't the greatest in the world but the more senior workers are friendly and fast. The only unavoidable negative elements of the Spaniards are some of the snotty clientele. Unavoidable are the sounds of menopausal women from Hampstead going on and on about their new 4x4, the price of a new skin cream or about the fact that their kids are doing "ever so well at their new private school, how are yours doing?"

The Old Eagle, Camden

The most comfy sofas ever at the back. Just make sure you get there early to grab them. Quiz night is a laugh and the staff are friendly, friendly enough to sit down and share their lunch with you. Not many other pubs in london can claim to be that nice.

Quinn's, Camden

If you like your specialty beers this is the place to go. A bit on the quiet side but the fridge at the end of the bar stocks some of the greatest imported beers I've ever sampled. The more senior bar staff really know their stuff when it comes to these beers and will gladly help when it comes to choosing. My personal recommendation is the Trios Pistols; a really dark fruity beer or the version of Guinness brewed by a Belgian company in Dublin to the original recipe. Strange but true.
