Lyttelton Arms, Camden

Very nice pub, lots of different drinks and a great menu with very good food on offer, and a dam nice steak was had... Think I have found my new watering hole in Camden, much better than the rest with enough space to relax and chill out...

The Roadhouse, Covent Garden

Was there yesterday from about 6pm till 9. Was quiet at the start which was quite cool and me and my date enjoyed the music, and surroundings, plus the bar people were friendly which is a good sign. Would go back.

The Ladywell Tavern, Ladywell

New chef installed a week ago. She is very good too, my mate said the steak the best he has had in 5 years, I agree it's very, very good on both occasions I have eaten here... Food is also cheap, 9 for steak & chips... Drink is a bit pricy and could be cheaper tho... Live bands, quiz nights, etc add up to a good little boozer with local community feel...

The Bridge House, Paddington

Nice place, been twice, had nice reasonable food too, would go back...

Waxy O'Connors, Piccadilly

Took my girlfriend here and she loves the decor, food (especially the waffles) and music (slightly too loud). Food was good sized portions and came quickly, found the steak slightly underdone for medium, but chips good and does get very busy. Never had a problem with mobile coverage, got a clear signal on o2 N95. Staff were friendly and observant. Recommended for an afternoon when not so busy. One of my favorite pubs and an instant hit with everybody I introduce it to... 8/10

The Waterway, Maida Vale

Echo others, poor service (very very slow), pestered to finish and move off after paid, very overpriced (15 for a small steak and handful of chips!) and not that good either. Great location spoiled by the pub itself. Could have been so much nicer. 3 from me...

The Warwick Castle, Maida Vale

Disappointing to me, read reviews on here and was meeting my girlfriend in the area, so popped in for a pint. Waited almost 20 minutes to be served, the poor guy behind the bar was on his own when there should be 3 people and had a good 10 customers waiting all the time, plus he couldn't work out who was next so I and others suffered. I finished my pint quicker than it was serve it. Apart from that it seemed fine - maybe a bit snobby but that's the area, but please please sort the terrible service out. Can't give more than a 5 due to this...

The William IV, Kensal Green

Lovely pub and was served pleasently and efficiently by barman and lovley serving girls in the resturant. Had a lovely tapas, one of the best tapas I have ever had, and the portions are large so we only needed four items for the two of us (usually it's 3 a piece). Would easily and very happily go back and eat there again. The garden is nice and you can eat in or out. The only minus was the music, but you don't hear it outside and can talk above it inside, it's dancy stuff or was when we went and needs to be updated a bit...

Waxy O'Connors, Piccadilly

Was in here after work and on a date on Monday, this place seems nice, the barpeople who served me were pleasant enough, no smiles or chit chat or anything else, more business like but for a Monday night it was rather busy. Under 3 a pint in central London isn't bad either. The unusual decor is the main attraction and is much larger than first inspection from the Rupert Street enterance where it looks like a tiny hovel. Toilets were ok. I'd come back just because it's an interesting place to look at and it's unusual decor, unfortunatly nothing to do with the barstaff and beer served.

The Rose and Crown, Mayfair

Went here on both the 21st and 25th of June before the o2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park. Pub seemed nice and clean, ok decor, looked like nice food at London City prices - I didnt try, people behind the bar were ok - not overly friendly but not rude either, beer was ok as expected but expect London prices (2.74+ a pint), noticed the single (?) pool table was upstairs as were the toilets. Sky was on a big TV at the end of the bar. It is an ok pub and if I was in the area I might pop back into...

The Old Ship, Hammersmith

On a late Saturday night a month ago wasn't overly busy and although expensive at 3 seemed a nice place and the staff were friendly enough. Summer should be nice and my new g/f just lives around the corner so a great summer ahead :)

The Fox and Firkin, Lewisham

Too follow up my previous comment below, the Fox Fest 2006 is happening on the 29th of April this year...

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

Was in the Gypsy Moth last night, been before, I like it in there, busy midweek but we managed to get a table and were the last out. Staff were nice and polite and at under 3 for a pint of Staropranen is actually cheaper than nearby Lewisham prices for same beer (compared vs Marlows Bar which last time was 3 exactly). I would go back without hesitation as the atmosphere is nice and friendly.

Zero Degrees, Blackheath

Went here on Friday and was plesently suprised, very nice place, slightly expensive (it is Blackheath after all) but very good food and cheap own brand beers (2.40 a pint). It was packed solid by 10pm and our table for 9pm was delayed for an hour+ so be warned that you may suffer from delays. The toliets were nice and clean allbeit quite small and there was no trouble at all that I witnessed. I would be happy to go back, to eat or drink or both.

The Fox and Firkin, Lewisham

For anybody who missed it yesterday, showing the Fox's commitment to live music, they held Fox Fest 05, basically from midday they have alternate normal and acoustic bands on two different stages, 10 of them each! So it was on from midday till about midnight. Was packed solid and very enjoyable.

Yates's, Lewisham

Had a 'meal' in there two weekends ago, had a steak which wasn't very good at all, leathery, the waitress also mucked up the order. So this weekend went to Marlows and had a proper meal which was miles better. I only went into Yates because it was easy as I was meeting a friend who had just been working out in Fitness First above. Noticed they now have 2 pool tables as well and more TV's with sky dotted around. There are much better places to go than this for a Sunday afternoon meal. As for the other nights, I think ashleyc's comments below are spot on, when I pass by all I see is gangs of youths looking for trouble. I don't think I can think of a reason to go in there, can anybody?

The Market Tavern, Lewisham

Was in there on Sunday for lunchtime food which was really nice and then came back in the evening for the best karaoke in SE London on Sunday nights...

14 Nov 2005 11:13

The Red Deer, South Croydon

Was in their on Friday. Karaoke is ok, nothing special, pub is large and beer is cheap. Service from a dodgy barmaid who looked and acted half drunk, however others were fine. Toilets were broken so had to use disabled ones but security were friendly and helpful. It was an enjoyable night with some nice looking young ladies, however there was a massive fight involving 20 blokes (so I have been told) after we had left. Luckily we missed that. Not sure if I would go back or not.

The Fox and Firkin, Lewisham

Yes, it's back to the Fox & Firkin now, I was told it was just going to be called the Fox, but its has Fox & Firkin on the new exterior, which is almost all black now. Still very friendly and cheap as chips.

Eamonn Doran's, Temple Bar

Was over in Dublin 22nd-25th June 2005 for U2 gig on the 24th, went in here before (and after) going into the opposite Badass Cafe (recommended), Good selection of indie/rock music played and reasonable prices 3.50 euros for a Fosters (of course more for Gunniess). Seemed to do pizza slices and toilets are rough, but usable, oh and one totally misserable chinese barman who really didn't want to be there and was rude and couldn't even lift a smile, comical, but the rest of them seemed friendly and welcoming. Visited a few times and would go back again as it reminded me of my local in London (Fox & Firkin) less the misserable barman of course!

The Fox and Firkin, Lewisham

Fox isn't called the The Fox & Firkin anymore, it's just The Fox. Opening times have changed a bit, now open on Thur-Sun till 1am and all other days till 11pm. Wednesday is still quiz night, Thursday is bands night and they now have the fortnightly very good acoustic sessions on Sunday evenings. Still one of the cheapest pubs in Lewisham, Carlsberg for 1.74 a pint and juexbox is only 20p a song!!!

15 Jun 2005 10:02

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

Was at the pub on Sunday for lunch at about noon. Had a great Rib Eye Steak and found the staff to be helpful and happy. My friend enjoyed the food also. Started to get busy at about 1.30pm with no outside benches available, so for a lovely relaxing sunny lunch meal, best advice is to get there middayish.
