The Ribs of Beef, Norwich

Once a year the devoted spouse makes a pilgrimage back to Norwich to visit her uni haunts. I always let her go wandiering by herself so I can end up in the Ribs drinking about 7 halves of great ales and staring out at the river.

This pub has never disappointed.

The Clachan, Soho

Excellent pub. They really know their beer. Food not bad.

The upstairs is great place to get away from the suits which can occasionally pack it out.

The Square Tavern, Euston

Jeez, the mixed reviews alone meant I had to visit this pub.

Could it possibly be a lunch crowd v evening crown thing. I was there for lunch today and found it the best pub in the area. (The Royal George is better but it's the other side of Euston). And this is one day after the previous review.

It's a Young's pub and the Ramrod was delicious. The bartender was English born and bred and appeared to have no language problems. I sat outside but did not encounter a the wall of smoke other reviews warned about when I went to order. In fact the inside is rather nice.

The Sols Arms, Euston

One of the many 'OK' pubs in the area. Not great but not bad either.

The Queens Head and Artichoke, Regents Park

Trendy but not in a bad way. Not what I would call a boozer but the guy behind the bar appreciates beer. Once he drew me a pint that had gone off and he really abased himself for doing so.

Not what I would call a 'great' pub but considering that the area is filled with 'OK' pubs and it is certainly better than most I'm sure I'll be here again.

The Bree Louise, Euston

Beer was served way too warm.

Nice enough place to sit outside but inside is dingy and stuffy.

Adam and Eve, Westminster

All the comments on this pub seemed fairly positive and yet it only had a 5.3 rating (prior to my vote). Odd.

I had to work down near St James tube and this was far and away the best pub in the area. Many guest ales. Not that crowded. Cozy little non-smoking room.

Highly recommended.

The Lamb Tavern, Leadenhall Market

Young's pub. Nice pint of Special.

The upstairs non-smoking room was a treat and the view of the market is nice. I will be going back.

The Aldgate Exchange, Aldgate

This is a tough pub to rate because the service is slow and the beer isn't very good. On the other hand the Thai food served in the basement at lunchtimes is some of the best I've ever had. Much better than Thai Square restaurant on the other side of Aldgate.

This makes it a great place for lunch but poor for anything else.

(WARNING: don't eat upstairs as it serves standard grub at a slow pace)

The Dover Castle, Marylebone

A Sam Smith's pub.

I love finding hidden pubs and the Castle is definitely tucked away. A quiet, quality little place. If I didn't have a job I would spend every afternoon there with a pint and a book.

The Windmill, Mayfair

A Young's pub.

I can only reiterate what others have already said. The food here is superb. That may have been the best steak and mushroom pie I've ever had. And the bite I had of my mate's smoked chicken sandwich was also great.

Nice atmosphere in the pub. Not too crowded considering how close it is to Oxford Circus. I'm not a big fan of Young's but I'm pretty sure the food will have me returning.

The Princess of Prussia, Tower Hill

Years ago, I used to work next to this pub and it was crap. Therefore when in the area I was pleasantly surpised that it had been refurbed and was much much nicer.

Not very smokey, good food, staff better than average. I'm not writing home to mum but I don't expect to see a glassing like I did 5 years ago.

Edwards, Romford

A poor pub for beer. Average for food. On the trendy side of things.

The Bag O' Nails, Victoria

I don't get over Victora way very often so a friend suggested meeting at the Shakespeare just outside the station. After one pint in that soulless place I asked if there was perhaps a better pub nearby. We ended up at the Bag O' Nails just up the street. Light years better.

Several guest ales, all of them good. Quick service. Not too smoky. Big burger. Did I mention the guest ales?

A good pub.

The Shakespeare, Victoria

Standard soulless city pub. Its location means I can understand why you might meet someone here but with so many other pubs around there is no reason to have more than the single pint.
