The Coalheavers Arms, Peterborough

Went with a friend -both germans- before the beer festival.
I was happy to see lots of beers from Milton brewery, stuck to the Nero, which was very good.
Landlord and locals very nice, stayed longer as we expected, so it must have been good...

The Ostrich Inn, Peterborough

Improved a lot till my last visit years ago when it was called "Bogarts".
Had two nice pints of dark mild in the beer garden before going to the beer festival.
Worth a visit.

The Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street

Last pint after a long London crawl last thursday was a good pint of Jennings Snecklifter.

No chances to comment the "atmosphere" in a station pub generally , but the place itself is absolutely ok.
I wish we had station pubs like that in Germany !!

The Star Tavern, Belgravia

In the post before "rpadam" sums it up perfect.

I met with friends there on early thursday afternoon ; we tried the full range of their Fullers beers. Every single one was in very good condition served from attentive staff.

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

Full on wednesday lunchtime. Service was ok , six handpumps if I counted correct. My pint of Pride was fine.

Seemed to be a bit rough , especially with two men sitting the next table sinking two pints and two vodkas in record time.

I would not have problems to go back, but prefer the Wheatsheaf just around the corner.

Wheatsheaf, Southwark

Having visited the pub on last wednesday very early I can't say anything about the atmospehere because there were only about four or five people in the whole pub.
At 3,20 each I had two very good pints, one Burton Bridge Mild XL and one Whitstable Oyster stout.
Definitely worth a visit after a market tour.

The Harp, Covent Garden

Went in to meet a friend on last tuesday. I had two excellent pints, one Sambrooks Wandle and one Skinners Betty Hogs Best Bitter.

Pub was full, thanks to the great service I got the chance to try samples before ordering the proper pints.

Everything about the nice interior is said in pervious posts.

The Wellington Arms, Bedford

Visited with two friends about three weeks ago late afternoon / early evening. Relatively empty at the start, pub filled up later.

Friendly welcome and good service , minimum eigth beers from the handpunp and two ciders available. Also a very good range of bottled beers.

After a slightly above average pint of dark mild to start with , I ended up with a few pints of excellent Salem Porter, the others were happy with their drinks as well.

Pub itself boasts with brewery memorabilia, great !!

The Lord John Russell, St Neots

Been there on a workday afternoon about three weeks ago, pub was more or less empty; they were preparing for their beer festival, which I sadly missed.

On the day of visit I had a lovely pint of Batemans XB , at least to more beers were available.

Very friendly welcome ; great to see two dartboards and lots of boardgames available as well.

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Pembury Tavern is normally the start of day out in London for me. I've always liked the pub , the good and friendly service and of course the beers.

Last thursday I finished the day out with three friends at the Pembury. For the first time I have seen the pub full of people which really did increase the atmosphere a lot.

The pints they sold during the beer festival where -as their normal beers- superb. I'll certainly be back whenever I get the chance.

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

Visited for the first time last thursday. We arrived in the early afternoon hours and easily got a table for the four of us. So I can't comment the "behavior" of the regulars.

Beer choice was very good, so where all the pints we had.

Pub itself certainly (and thankfully) ist definitely not a tourist attraction, but an excellent place for those who look for a good choice and a good quality of the beer.

Last words about the (in)famous loos.... I've seen far worse.....

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

Visited the pub last week in the early afternoon hours. Service was quick and friendly, but when I asked if they might have a dark mild on it was too much for the american girl behind the bar.
The answer was "Try this, this is on for 20 minutes now, it is fine."

I gave it a try and found out, that the pint of Dirty Tackle was absolutely fine.

Good as a meeting place or for a quick pint or two.

Doggetts Coat and Badge, Southwark

Visited this pub o a relatively quiet tuesday afternoon last week. Location is absolutly great, beerwise I had a pint of Thwaites Nutty Black and a Thermal Cheer (Isle of Purbeck).
Both beers were very good, service was friendly and quick. Would go back for a pint or two.

Kings Highway, Inverness

Went in on a thursday afternoon. It was relatively busy, but sevrice was quick and friendly.

I had two very good pints of Houstons "Warlock Stout" .

Certainly one of the better Wetherspoons I have seen in all my holidays.

The Benleva Hotel, Drumnadrochit

Arriving on our holiday on the last day of the annual beer festival we had high hopes......but were disappointed.

The pub is very basic, which is certainly not bad ; we got an nice welcome as well, but the four different pints we tried were just acceptable , nothing more.

We (three real ale drinkers) gave it another try a week later and ended up with the same result leaving after just one pint.

Maybe it got worse in the last two years or it is just overrated.

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

Visited at lunchtime on the GBBF thursday. Lovely pub, managed to find two seats immdediately. Tried the cream stout, a very nice pint. Five more beers would have been available, but to dangerous before the GBBF, so I took three bottles home. The old style porter (from the bottle) was brillant as well. I certainly will be back.

The Princess Louise, Holborn

Fantastic refurb ;great interior plus one of the cheapest pints in London. OBB always an acceptable pint , very crowded ,staff ok.

29 Aug 2008 08:38

The Palmerston Arms, Peterborough

It completely changed inside (in my opinion to the positive) since my last holidays.

Beer and bar staff has always been very good, so it was this time.

Very friendly welcome as well.

13 Mar 2008 02:33

The Brewery Tap, Peterborough

Another "must go" in my Cambs holidays. Wide choice of excellent beers, at the time of visit very friendly bar staff.
Hope it will be there for a long, long time !

13 Mar 2008 02:29

Charters Bar, Peterborough

A must in all my Cambridgeshire holidays in the last years. Excellent choice of at least 10 real ales as always , great location as well.

13 Mar 2008 02:24

The White Horse, Hertford

Went towards the end of their May beer festival and tried an excellent pint of Dragonsmoke stout.
London Pride back to top form again.

26 May 2007 15:06

The Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater

We sat in the garden after a long walk and enjoyed a pint of Malbreak Bitter and after that a pint of Scuillin (?), a very nice beer from Scotland. Location of the pub is fantastic, especially in the bright sunshine we had in the first week of May.

26 May 2007 14:53

The Old Cross Tavern, Hertford

Great pub with five or six handpumps and a few well covered outside seats. Tried a few beers, all were excellent. My personal favorite was the Oscar Wilde Mild, fantastic pint. Very friendly atmosphere as well. Sure I'll be back in the next holidays.

22 May 2007 01:27

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

Another lovely pub visited during my holidays. Great interior with a good pint of Sam Smith at a very reasonable price. Always worth a visit.

22 May 2007 01:23

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

After af few pints during a pub crawl it was not that easy to find for me as a tourist. But ist was definitely worth the search, the pub is a "must see". Staff was very friendly, the beer was nice. Same as I said from "Ye Old Chesire Cheese" ..... keep it unchanged, please !!

21 May 2007 19:27

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street

Yes, I am a tourist... the only thing to ask for is to leave this pub unchanged forever. A pint of Sammy Smith went down good as usual, can't say anything about the food.

21 May 2007 19:20

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

Fantastic interior with a decent pint served by friendly bar staff

21 May 2007 19:16

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Be careful....the tourists have discovered this very nice pub. Stopped on the way in from Hertford and took the 200 m detour from Hackney Downs, absolutely worth the stop. Had a game of bar billards, a nice lunch for five pounds including 1/2 pint of beer. Eight beers, I tried the Milton Sparta, which was good and ended with the Carlow o Henlons Stout, which was fabulous. Very friendly staff as well. Only minus: I agree with kpflude from May 8th... please a little bit more decor !!

21 May 2007 19:11

The Banker, Cannon Street

Visited in my holilday last week. Excellent pint of Pride , great location with lovely views over the Thames.
Very helpful staff as well, I think first time in all my England holidays they served me a beer at the table !!

1 Dec 2006 12:44

The White Horse, Hertford

I have visited this pub in all my recent holidays. The pub ist absolutely great, went there to watch the rugby last sunday.
Good crowd, good fun....but I have to admit, that this time the pint (Fullers Pride) was not at it's best form.

1 Dec 2006 12:36

The Old Barge, Hertford

Visited twice last week during my holiday. They held a beer festival with minimum eight ales, (dark) milds and stouts per day. All the beers were excellent.
Very friendly and helpful bar staff.
Brilliant pub, would definitly recommend it.
