bitterend - "rumours of prices exceeding TheBridge", does that mean you haven't been in or you can't remember if you paid or not?

Looked a really nice pub when I drove past in the morning, so turned up in the evening to find it closed (except for the strange woman hiding in the dark) - Does it ever open?

Went in Saturday - was a good night with a good few pints of Lee's

Now summers here (for a day or two) - they need to sort the back yard out with some plants.
The patio area is fine but a bit of refinement wouldn't go amiss.
Got to pat them on the back for their beers btw - a spot on choice of beers, that has had a bit of thought about it

Well I think it's a great pub - of which there are a few in Horwich. The staff seem to try hard & the improvements made seem well appreciated.
As like most people I do my voting with my feet & this is one of the three or four pubs that I frequent on a regular basis.
The Brains bitter is always well kept & is a fovourite

"Nasty chilled bitter, not a haven for the serious beer drinker. Might appeal more to those who don't wish to spend 1.50 on a pint. However, you know the old saying,'you get what you pay for'. At the Crown you certainly get what you pay for, no more, no less" - Yamato.
Those lads from CAMRA obviously don't know what they are on about then?

Perhaps Yamato Horwich gets the pubs it deserves...!
Anyway hope it go's ok

Well I went in on Weds night & whilst the toilets are still at the back, the smell had definately gone (if ever there)...!!!

Talking of the smoking shelter, what do people think of it? Personally think they did a good job but could definately do with some plants round the back of there.
Also anybody any idea when the church conversion is to be completed & what happens when people moving in start complaining about the noise?

P.S. Could do with a new dartboard - Am sure it's the same one I used to play on 20 years ago...

Just hope they don't get in to other pubs & cause the trouble they caused here - The landlady looked for a short term gain & took the attitude that as long as the money was coming in she was happy, she then jumped before she was pushed.

Must have picked a bad night as the handpulls normally spot on..!
Agree they need to sort out Weds, as I go in for the footie. Perhaps they should purchase more than one tv? Oh sorry I forgot.. they already have!

Came down for the tennis & as was staying close by went in for a pint (or two). Beers were fine & locals friendly - Not been to Eastbourne for over 20 years, but used to frequent this place occasionally - would definately call in here again (perhaps I won't wait as long next time)...!

Good stuff to everybody involved in making the Carnival & races a great success. Nice to have a pint whilst watching all the races - Nice touch in doing the bbq, certainly helped the beer go down...!

New bitters are on handpull - always good to have a change & really liked the Unicorn

Agree with babe3 - went to Bay, Bowler & Original on Sat night & didn't see a problem in any of them - seems all three have managed to lose the nutter element...!
9 Jun 2008 12:32
True - wouldn't want to spill their pint.
Not that would be a problem in the Bay Horse, obviously as it has a nice clientelle.!!!

"Most of the pub teams have left for elsewhere", they have 2 darts teams, a pool team & Tues league teams - have they moved?
Don't know about the food as not interested, bu the beers ok & the people are funny har-har not funny strange...
With regard to it's reputation, I think you've been listening to your own propaganda too much ;)

Lol - its not just the beer thats bitter then...!
"If you want a trouble free drink, try the Bowling Green or the Long Pull." Mmmm not sure that's right - as far as I know it's not had the fire brigade call nor does it look like a war zoe when you walk past.
HorwichAllstar - did you not get a free drink this Xmas? Cause I did...!
