We went here for Sunday lunch. There was a good choice of real ales, but prices were £3.70 per pint. The HSB was decent, but the Theakston's Best was badly kept, and barely drinkable. The food prices were shocking: I know Michelin starred restaurants that are cheaper! I started with a tasty fishcake, and my main course of fish and chips was good, the fish being large, thick and nicely done. However, that came to £19.80 including tip, and that was one of the cheapest options! I would be quite positive about the food if it was a third cheaper, but I cannot recommend it at this price. Due to the variable quality and high prices of the ales, I cannot recommend drinking here either. It is a pity, because the decor, facilities and location of the pub are very nice.

A group of us, including six real ale drinkers, tried this place out on a weekday. There was plenty of space to sit as a group in the lounge (away from the live music in the main bar, which we all hated), but the beer was awful. The London Pride was poor, and the Black Sheep was terrible. We all agreed we would not go back.

This pub was a pleasant suprise on a visit to Bath. There were three cask ales available, including Timothy Taylors Landlord. The food came in generous portions and was well above average in quality, despite remaining average in price. The food was served very quickly, and the landlord was welcoming and attentive.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street
The beer is very cheap, but only the keg version of Samuel Smiths is available: there is no cask conditioned ale at all. The atmosphere is one the best anywhere. The pub is a rabbit warren of several bars, function rooms and dining areas. The food is cheapish by Central London standards, and of average quality. Mind your head when you go downstairs, as people were a lot shorter when those 13th century vaults were built! Don't believe the bogus history this pub surrounds itself with. I'll bet anything that 'Dr Johnson's chair' is about as genuine as the Turin Shroud! Also, I can find no evidence that this pub existed before about 1820, despite frequent claims elsewhere of it dating back much further.

This is a standard Wetherspoon's with the usual goood range of cheap real ales, and the usual extreme variability in the quality of their cellarmanship.

This pub could be good if the cellarmanship was better. Unfortunately, every time I have had a pint of Youngs here it has ranged between mediocre and awful. The Dog & Bull is by far the better Youngs pub in this area.

In my opinion this is the best pub in Croydon. Landlord Martin and his staff know you, they serve the full Fullers range to a high standard, there is no noise, and it has a nice intimate atmosphere. It is a classic old fashioned pub. The only minus is that prices are quite high.

This pub is my vision of hell, as it is noisy and has no cask ale. It even has the travesty keg version of London Pride. Younger customers who don't mind keg beer and who like mindless noise might like it.

Youngs is served well here, but the Charles Wells and guest brews are sometimes poorly kept. The inside is old fashioned, and the pub tends to attract a traditional type of customer. The large beer garden is nice. Altogether this is one of Croydon's best pubs.

This pub is noisy, lacks any cask ale, and therefore has no appeal to me.

The George, Croydon
This pub has a very good real ale selection. Bar staff are mostly good. Unfortunately it is attractive to young club-goers at weekends, and therefore has a noisy and threatening atmosphere on Friday and Saturday evenings. Bouncers, though essential at a place like this, can also be a problem. One in particular is harmless to troublemakers but very aggressive to everyone else! These things have made me stop going to this pub.
