Decent beer at very decent prices. Lovely old ex-bank biulding. Food not too bad but a hell of a treck to the bogs. has a reputation for being full of rowdy chavs spoiling for a fight as close to Pittodrie and the highrises.

Had a beer or two in the Lounge just after new year and quite liked it. The beer was decent and had a fair selection of malts. The place was empty which was strange it being a Friday night.

A decent place for a decent pint of beer. Inside is a bit run down and some of the locals can be unfiendly. However, its got a good selection of drams and is often open late. Has recently changed its name back to the Carlton.

Other than the Crit this is still one of the few places in Stornoway where you can have a decent pint. Its pretty basic but has all the essential requirements such as friendly bar staff (more often than not) and a decent range of malts. You are also likely to meet a few locals ( and not the wee neds that seem to plague every small town nowadays).

I have to say that I really like the Crit and its where I like to meet my pals. Its got Caley 80 on draught as well as a few good malts on top of the normal Tennents range. Its very nice inside but needs a lot of attention on the outside which is flaking and rubbish looking. Its one of the few places in Stornoway where you can still have a good yarn in Gaelic.

A truely awful pub and possibly the worst I've ever been in!!!!
Has a bad reputation for violence and being really filthy.

The only other place for serious drinkers to Howff beer down in Aberdeen. However, unlike Grill the emphasis here is on beer. They do have an ever growing and solid selection of drams though. Full of wee nooks and crannies and I've never seen trouble. Staff can be quite polite and you don't have to wait long to get served except on Saterday nights. Have never tried the food though but my pals swear by it (gets in the road of drinking!). Bogs are rank.

If your a serious drinker (and I am by reputation) and enjoy your boose (and I do) there are only 2 placed to go and one of them is The Grill. This is the ideal place to go if you like a dram or two of good malt and their selection is great! This is also a place to meet the locals, who are friendly, but you seldom see the nutters that cause trouble. I should know as I'l a regular and have never seen troubleI would Have given it a 10 but the bogs can get a bit nippit and minging. However, the staff are great and really care. The beer is also always good and its a perfect place to go if you enjoy a "Hauf and Hauf " with emphysis on whiskey. Dont be put off by the outside though

The Babbity Bowster, Glasgow
A decent though grey pub that serves well handled but vastly overpriced real ale. Have been in when there is live music and enjoyed it though. Will save up pennies and go back again.
