The Squirrel at Hurtmore, Hurtmore
Well as promised went back to the Squirrel last week, to see if it had improved after my last review. There was four of us that particular evening, and each one of us had heard bad reviews about the food here, but we decided to go with an open mind, hoping that things had settled down and the quality of the food had improved. I can honestly say that the food hasnt, and it is overpriced for what you get, I cant believe you pay 2.50 for a small bowl of chips, (I would guess about 20 chips!!) I dont mind paying over the odds for an excellent meal, but the food here is below average with expensive prices. As I said before what a shame they arent paying a little bit more attention to detail, no one asked us if we were happy with our meal, staff were polite, but not friendly. As everyone knows in this business it doesnt take long to get a bad reputation, and so many local people are saying the same as me, in fact I dont think I have heard one person say anything positive about it - come on Squirrel sort it out, you have loads of loyal ex customers keeping our fingers crossed that you will improve.

Well what a disppointment, went to the Squirrel today, as used to love the old pub, so was keen to give it a try. It has been turned into another bland trendy type pub, gone is the cosy atmosphere of the old pub, and the food was terrible, poor selection, undercooked burger, undercooked chicken dry and tasteless fish cakes. Lets just hope that its teething problems with having only been open a couple of days, so will give it another try and hopefully it will improve.

Fantastic old building, and lovely gardens, what a shame the microwaved food doesnt live up to the surroundings. Staff friendly enough, so OK if you just want a quick drink and sit in the garden, but I wont be eating there again.

Well I would like to comment on the food but unfortunately never got to taste any!! Have lived in Witley/Godalming area for more years than I care to mention, and seen the Star change many times!!! Popped in one Saturday lunch time - it was approaching 2.00 pm only wanted a sandwich and a drink, but the bar staff said kitchen was closed!!! so we left and went to the White Hart further up the road, who again said that the kitchen was closed, but would be happy to make us up some sandwiches, what a difference in attitude - been back to the White Hart many times, but wont be going to the Star, well not until they get a new landlord, and the way he treats people I dont think it will be long....

After this pub was refurbished thought I would check it out, I was so disappointed, I had the Greek Meze and my husband and son had the burgers, the burgers were tasteless, the Meze looked as if it has been plated up for hours, the pitta breads were stale. When my husband went to pay, and the waitress asked was everything OK, my husband said NO, and explained ...she shrugged her shoulders ...she then just presented the bill!!! Last week I went back again with a friend - thinking perhaps it had just been a one off bad day - we ordered the mushroom soup, this arrived and it didnt taste of mushroom at all, just potatoe - I will not be returning again!!! what a shame that a lovely pub cant produce decent food and have polite staff...

I love this pub, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is just right - not many pub in the Godalming area have both. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful. Have been to most of the local pubs in the area but keep coming back to the Squirrel.

Having not visted this pub for a long time, went in on Saturday night for a meal, the food was excellent value for money and good, service friendly and helpful. The pub area is warm and welcoming, but the restaurant area felt cold and isolated, if you do decide to eat here make sure you book a table in the pub area and not the restaurant. Definately worth a visit.
