Crosskeys, Wallingford

Good decent local pub atmosphere. Open fire always a bonus. Brakspears 'Original' (that's the name anyway, even if it isn't from Henley any more) as good as you're going to get.

The Crown, Nuffield

Just back from visiting this pub. Beer remains as good as ever, though the new owners (in the last few weeks I understand) have made it into a more restaurant style, with most tables laid out for food during mealtimes. The food and service is excellent, though this does leave the area around the bar for those who just want to drink while others eat.

Nags Head, Reading

A very well regarded, and now much loved, pub indeed. Previously a basic spit and sawdust affair, this was taken on by new owners over a year ago, cleaned up and given a new direction. The first non smoking pub in Reading - well before the legislation.
A great selection of real ales as well as wine. A small, but good, food menu. Great music selection. The staff are all friendly and this makes for great atmosphere in the pub.
If you thought all real ale pubs were a bit careworn and scruffy, check this place out - it was cleaned up and they intend to keep it that way!

The Great Western, Marsden

Great spacious pub out on the Marsden Moors. Restaurant looks good, and there is a wood burning fireplace which makes it all very cosy. Great for walkers, this is reasonably close (on a day's walk anyway) for a station to station walk and the 184 Manchester to Huddersfield stops right outside. For those using the Greater Manchester Wayfarer day ticket, this is the last bus stop in the area! So finish your day's walk here, have a few jars of the excellent Black Sheep and get the bus (timetable behind the bar) back across the Moors - how fabulous is that?!
