ok, its a Wetherspoons - so you get what you pay for generally. I wont comment on the food & drink, as its always consistent (read into that whatever you will). What I dont like is the dumb idea to dim the lighting so low that you can barely read your newspaper! I'm told that this is to create an "ambience". I was there yesterday. It was 25 degrees and sunny outside, the front doors open wide, people in their shorts, yet it was so gloomy inside that the back end of the pub was empty, apart from a few sad night light candles flickering in the gloom. I like to pop into the pub to read my paper after work, but they just have got it so wrong. Leave the candle lit gloom until darkness please!

The White Hart, Crystal Palace
I like the White Hart. It has a good atmosphere, and nice staff. It has a new manager now & some things I dont like. Things that you wouldn't notice if you haven't worked in pubs. I don't like the fact that there are no tongs for handling lemons and lime. I am saying this after hearing the manager tell a customer he couldn't use the same glass, as if it touched the beer nozzle it would be cross contamination, yet he lets the staff pick up fruit for your drink with their unwashed fingers. I dont like the fact that you are charged for a full bottle of tonic water, yet you arent given the bottle - its just topped up from what they didnt give the last customer. I worked out that they save a third of a bottle for every G & T they serve (great for his stock). I also dont like the fact that if you order a spirit & cola/lemonade, they serve it to you in a small glass with ice (4/5oz) and charge you for an 8oz dash of cola/lemonade. 10oz is a half a pint. I know its the brewery that puts pressure on landlords to make sure they have a good stock, but its a bit of a rip off. Oh, and what does annoy me a lot that the toilets have been without a lock and a working light since shortly after the new guy took over. Come on, sort it out - its not rocket science!
