Also Scrumpylicious I'd like to quote you from May 5th 2012 'This site is for reviewing pubs, not picking holes in others' comments'
I rest my case.

Well Scrumpylicious I'm sorry to disappoint but I am not a local at all, I live in Tunbridge Wells... So whether you believe my story or not it is in fact the truth. I'm sorry if you had a bad time there but my experience has been very good, hence my positive review. Just because my time there differed to yours does not make me a liar!

I went to this pub for the first time this week and I must agree with someone of the comments. When I walked in the door there was a silence as everyone stared at me for not being a local, lots of rowdy people in the bar area as they had been on a shoot. However get over this initial uncomfortable feeling and fight your way to the bar and everything is brilliant, I agree that the locals didn't want to move but a polite request and they moved aside to allow me to get a very nice pint. I sat down by the fire and found most of the locals very chatty, in fact a very interesting group of people... there were bankers in suits, game keepers in working gear and builders in jeans. I like a pint so I wasn't put off by the loudness of the group, however if I was going to go with my young niece I wouldn't choose a weekend evening but that goes for almost every pub! Long and short, I loved this pub with it's vibrant group of locals... In fact I liked so much I returned the next day!! Some locals came in from the night before and made the effort to say hello, inviting me into the local circle.... I'm now looking for houses for sale in the area!

I love this place, whether it be for a chilled beer or for something fantastic to eat. I must admit that I did have the same feeling as the previous comment (mrse1) but I couldn't have been more wrong, I have had many a Friday/Saturday night in the bar without eating and it is all very relaxed. At first glance the menu can seem expensive but the quality is better than anything else in the area and worth every penny, I often find it my first choice when wanting to eat out as I have never been disappointed.
Well worth a visit.

Can't comment on the food as I haven't eaten here, but it looks good coming out to other peoples tables. Great cosy little place in the winter with friendly helpful staff and open fires, but it's in the summer that this hidden gem comes to life... great garden with so much space, also great if the typical English summer shows itself as you can nestle under giant brollies with heaters... without doubt the best garden in Tunbridge Wells.

I went back here to give it another go, but I've got to admit that if you want good sea food head to Thorins at the other end of town... fan-bloody-tastic, the chef pops into the restaurant to say hi and makes you feel so welcome and not just a number.... the produce is top draw and cooked to perfection and on top of that 2 course lunch is only 10 including a glass of house wine... Brilliant !!! I'll be back at every opportunity...

I never like looking an idiot as I loved this place a few months back, but............ I went back here today after being out of town for a while, what has happened to the place ? The exterior is an odd shade of pink, the interior is terrible and when I went to order lunch..... nothing but tapas... Sopranos in the High Street is the best place in town for this (and cheaper). I do feel terrible after recommending this venue as I will never be back myself, why change a good thing ?.... not good... best place for food in the wells now... Thorins with out a doubt..

Went to this bar recently after walking out of Sankeys (few doors up), never really thought it would be my kind of venue....... How wrong could I have been, great bar with great staff and the cocktails.... well they are something to write home about. Definitely a more "professional" class of customer, with not a chav in sight. Great selection of both bottled and draft beer, good wine and the biggest shock for me was the great quality of food, especially the daily special risotto.... yum!
100% the best bar in town, it will become my "local" for sure.

Not sure what has happened to this place. It used to be a fantastic pub to go for a great crowd of people, full of friendly "locals", and well priced great pub food.
Now it seems to be full of chavs, drug heads and none of the old familiar faces. The food prices have gone up whilst the quality has gone down and the place just isn't the same. Such a shame as I always remember it being a fantastic venue for meeting friends for a relaxed and enjoyable night out.

The Princess of Shoreditch, Old Street
What a great venue, I've been here a few times and drank at the bar. Staff are fantastic and the selection of local beers is something to be proud of. We didn't eat but the food coming out looked amazing so I will be back to sample this... A great find!
