Only one beer - Deuchars IPA - which was wildly overpriced. This place is wholly lacking in any type of atmosphere. Not a particularly friendly welcome and you have to wonder why, when the brewery is about a mile down the road, the owner does not serve any Arran Ales. Avoid and walk down to the Ormidale Hotel just 10 minutes down the road.

One of the best places in terms of beer quality and choice on Arran. Two Arran ales beers and one guest when we were there, all in excellent condition.

Went here after getting sawn off at he Star and Garter with a pint of Sarsons Malt. What a relief....friendly, knowledgable staff who know their beer. Mmmm lovely pint of Tribute, pool table, good atmosphere = top pub

The Star and Garter, Montpelier
Served a pint of Titanic which looked very murky indeed and was definitely 'off' as tasted of pure vinegar. When told the barman he went to get the Landlord who then got quite nasty - saying that all beers taste different, and made his point by giving me a little bit of all the other beers which admittedly didn't taste too bad, and then refused to change the one I had. Indeed, he looked like he was going to punch me.
Avoid unless you like your beer to taste of pure Sarson's and don't mind being humiliated in front of your friends and other customers by the nutjob proprietor. Nil points.

Lovely pint of Bellringer and no smoking to boot! Recommended

Pity that this place is often very quiet (particularly on weekdays) as they are making a real effort with it. 6 or 7 real ales, guest beers from micro breweries, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Only slight criticism is that the beer isn't always in great condition - maybe because not enough punters to drink it!!

Fantastic little pub, but have to agree with previous post that it's a shame the LL doesn't put on a few guest ales instead of the usual Bath Ales. However, if you like your Bath Ales, it is always served in tip top condition. Pop down to the Hillgrove down the road for more beer choice.....

Fairly recently refurbished old local's pub. Now has an extensive choice of 6 or 7 real ales which, so far have always been served in excellent condition. (at time of writing, they seem to have a guest brewery every week of so and sell all beers from that brewer....great idea!). Drinking area at front of pub with restaurant out back (haven't tried the food but looks pricey). Hasn't got the cosy atmosphere of a pub like the Hare on the Hill, but if you likes yer real ale this is an essential stop as you stagger up (down) the Gloucester Road

This used to be an essential pub to visit and part of the classic Montpelier pub crawl. Sadly the character of the place seems have disappeared. Pinball, Space Invaders and the legendary jukebox now gone. Last time I was there the place was full of white middle class rude boys wearing hoods, dub music was blasting out and there was a distinct odour of what I believe is known as 'skunk' pervading the atmosphere. Shame.

The Pipe and Slippers, Montpelier
This COULD be a very good pub. However, it is very, very smokey. There does not seem to be any ventilation at all and, even as a smoker, I found I was nearly choking on a busy Saturday night. Food is good but wildly overpriced....better to walk 200 yards down the road and get a Pieminister pie for half the price.

The State Bar, Glasgow
Good choice of real ales with some from local Scottish micro breweries. Definitely worth a look.
