The Florence, Herne Hill

Well its official Herne Hill is now simply a clapham clone. What a rubbish bar. I am sorry that I have been part of the gentrification area. What once made Herne Hill special has slowly been eroded. The Florance is a horrible example of this. Pretentious, over priced, staffed by morons more concerned with their appearance than actually serving customers.

The Tappit Hen, Dunblane

A very very friendly little pub. Good selection of ales and bottle largers, friendly and mixed crowd in terms of age.
If you are in Dunblane definitely worth a quick visit. I expect you will stay longer than you intended.

The Old Explorer, Oxford Circus

I think its an awful pub.

On my last visit 3 of the staff stood away from the bar talking, whilst one poor girl did her best to cope on her own. The bar was sticky and dirty, there was no atmosphere.

A drunk at the bar cast aspersions on my sexuality because I, sin of sins carried a bag. It was like some form of 1970's homophobic time warp.

In that part of town there are nicer, cheaper, friendlier and generally better pubs to choose from. Visit one of them instead, any one of them!

However if you do find your self in there make sure you dont carry a bag and make sure you assert very loudly that you prefer kissing girls to kissing boys.

The Phoenix, Victoria

One hell of an improvement since the refurb but that wouldn't have been difficult.

It is now pleasant, well kept, friendly and serving a good selection of largers and not a bad range of ales.

Didn't eat but others plates looked good.

Worth a pint if you are in the area.

The Last Bid, Bond Street

Yep Cheap booze just of Oxford Street... can't be bad.
Its never too busy, and in all other ways it is average. But its got cheap booze just of Oxford street!

Yes it does have a Pool table.

The Chopper Lump, Mayfair

Not my sort of place, but if you enjoy wearing pin stripes and have the deep routed belief in your own superiority, based on nothing more than your ability to be obnoxious then this is place for you.
Decent selection of wines though.

The Railway, Tulse Hill

I have drank in this pub for well it must be for nearly 2 years now. I have seen it change and alter and I have held off giving it a review until the newest changes had settled in.

SoI like it. It is a good bar.
It is comfortable and welcoming.
Its not pretentious but neither is it scary.
They have a good music policy, a great beer garden and good food
I can't think of the last time I had a bad night or seen any trouble in it.

If you live in Tulse Hill its the best place to drink, but in response to the previous review I think I would choose to drink here even if competition existed.

Its not flash, it doesnt shout, its just a good bar and thats enough for me.

The Wine Vaults, Southsea

A Pompey Institution.

25 May 2006 15:54

The Winchester Arms, Portsmouth

A good back street boozer, a cut above most.

25 May 2006 15:51

The Mother Shipton, Portsmouth

I stumbled into it for a quick pint. Drank it left no bother.

A few days later I see it Britains Hardest Pubs and was a little surprised.

Either I had a lucky escape or its not a s bad as its made out to be?

Eitherway there is nothing about it special enough to take the risk.

25 May 2006 15:49

The British Queen, Portsmouth

Richard has it spot on, a great, friendly welcoming local boozer. Go and enjoy.

25 May 2006 15:46

Cuba Libre, Angel, Islington

Had many a messy night in this place. Happy Hour if put to good use sorts you right out.

Mojito's are especially good.

25 May 2006 15:44

The White Hart, West Norwood

The pub is in need of a bit of a clean, a lick of paint and a spruce up, but get past its shambolic appearance and you have a decent locals pub.

I go in pretty regularly now (its cheap & they show the footy) and I have never had any problems felt threatened or intimidated.

Not bad if you want to a break from the railways smugness.

The Woodstock, Bond Street

I liked this pub. Went there for a quick pint stayed for 4. Friendly staff nice atmosphere made all teh more remarkable that it should be a hellish hole, bearing in mind its just of a main shopping throughfayre. I reccomend it if you need to rest your weary legs from too shopping.

The Shaston Arms, Soho

Great wee pub, Lovely for an early lunch time pint, as the street seems to catch the light beautifully at this time?
Inside is always welcoming and friendly with a nice unpretentious mixed crowd.

Good selection of non generic lagers as well.

St Christopher's Inn, Greenwich

Rubbish pub!
The bar tender tried to trick me out of cash saying I that as I was paying by card they had to keep it behind the bar unless I spent over 5. I pointed out my round was was over 5. He didn't even look embarressed.
No atmosphere, dirty despite being empty, souless, generally not worth a visit.

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

Fantastic Pub with a proper bar man. No nonsense service, remembers your order, is polite and courteous with out being obsequious. Top gent.

The pub its self is fantastic.

Its quite simply everything a pub should be.

The Midas Touch, Soho

Ok to watch the sport in. You can usually get a seat as its far enough away from oxford circus and piccadilly not to be seen by tourists nor be everyones first choice.

28 Mar 2006 17:47

The Social, Fitzrovia

Good bar if a little prentious. Actually a lot pretentious, but if you can put up with a few punters who are in love with themselves then you should have a good night.

15 Mar 2006 13:15

Nordic, Fitzrovia

Interesting pub, a good selection of Nordic beers, a cranberry one whose name escapes me was especially refreshing and strong (which must be why the name escapes me).

15 Mar 2006 13:14

The Bricklayers Arms, Fitzrovia

Good pub had many a drunken night in here.
Warm, welcoming and cosy. The back bar is good for the darts, the front bar for a quick pint and upstairs for a session.

15 Mar 2006 13:11

The Toucan, Soho

Definitely more Irish than Oirish and definitely worth a visit. It gets very busy on Friday evenings but this is fine as the punters just spill out into the street.

Good pint of Guinness

15 Mar 2006 13:04

The John Snow, Soho

Great pub, good clientele, nice mix, unpretentious only bettered by the Krishnan Guru-Murphy round the corner

15 Mar 2006 13:01

French House, Soho

I love this Pub.
Its friendly, welcoming, and generally great!
The Cider is worth a go...buy it by the bottle.
They do a good strong coffee, as you would expect decent wine and they disaprove of mobile phones.
Allez allez allez!!!

15 Mar 2006 12:52

The Coach and Horses, Soho

A Ronseal pub...does what it says on the tin.

15 Mar 2006 12:43

The Shakespeare's Head, Soho

Tourist hell!!!

14 Mar 2006 17:29

The White Horse, Soho

Average pub, grand for a pint if you're passing but not a destination location.

14 Mar 2006 17:28

The Red Lion, Soho

This bar is a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street. Tucked down a back street and off the beaten path it offers a refuge, and in winter a warm roaring fire! Cheap pints a great atmosphere and a clientele as varied as they are friendly.

14 Mar 2006 17:26

The Queens Inn, Belfast

Local Boozer, heads will turn when you walk in but no damage will be done.

15 Dec 2005 17:39

The Morning Star, Belfast

There is nothing wrong with this pub. Everything is right!
The food is fantastic
The Bar staff are great the atmosphere is top.
Go to it!

Buy a plate for a 5er and load it up.

15 Dec 2005 17:39

The Cross Keys, Covent Garden

I love this pub, and im not sure why?
But its one of my favouite in London.
Its jumbeled and messey and red and it just feels right to be sitting in there on a saturday afternoon getting slowly drunk.

Its got one of the best chip shops in london just down the same street from it.

12 Dec 2005 17:29

Lowlander, Covent Garden

I love this pub the staff are friendly and knowledgable, the decor and ambiance is great and each of the beers on teh beer menu is served in its own special glass.

I think its a great bar in which to nurse and then medicate a hangover on a sunday.

12 Dec 2005 17:25

The Florence, Herne Hill

This used to be my fav pub in the area then the dreeded refurb, took it from being a genuine Irish pub to some form of monstrous Orish theme bar.

Since then I have once again warmed to its charms the beer garden is grand for a nice cold pint of magners the staff are friendly and the horrible shinneyness is slowly being eroded.

I think what makes this bar is irt clientelle with a great mix of auld codgers each with a few great stories and the young locals.

12 Dec 2005 16:59

The Commercial, Herne Hill

I loved this pub when it was still 1.80 a pint and was somewhat worried when it was being refurbed... but I love the results.

The selection of beer is great the staff are friendly the food is good and the atmosphere and mix of clientelle is great.

I love it
