Sutherland Arms, Golspie

This is now the Golspie Hotel - and a good thing too. The Sutherland Arms was dead in the water. However, the new owner has real ales now. He is keen to make a go of this attractive place. Will be going there next month, so I'll post details afterwards

The Whey Pat Tavern, St Andrews

The staff are on the ball. Efficient and knowledgeable about the ales, which are usually a good variety . Sandwiches are the best, but the pie, beans and mash take a lot of beating. A good unpretentious pub, no frills, but well run.

The Pittentrail Inn, Rogart

We went to the Pittentrail Hotel on the strength of the previous review (albeit 5 years old) We were so disappointed. The food was awful. The fish was so bad my husband couldn't eat it. When he complained, the waitress argued that it was fresh that morning. No apology.
Meanwhile, the owner wandered through the bar, yawning without covering his mouth. I know pubs can be casual, but he was wearing an old tee shirt with holes in it - not very professional, but apt for the place. No apology, terrible service, awful food.
