The Lion Hotel, Farningham

Visited the Lion today (Sunday) for a family lunch - nine of us. Couldn't fault it at all. Booked the table by phone and they phoned back last night to confirm our booking. Place was busy being a sunny Sunday but our food arrived in a reasonable time. Waitress (Julie E) was friendly and fun, attentive and very good at her job. Food was all well-cooked and tasty, big portions and piping hot. Based on our experience today we wouldn't hesitate to go back for dinner someday. At under £20 per head (inc drinks, some starters and some desserts) good value for money. Seems to be mixed reviews for this place - maybe it depends on which staff are on duty?

The Cowdray Arms, Balcombe

Last review was nearly a year ago so time for an update. We were recommended this pub for its food so we went for a Saturday afternoon meal recently. Food was superb - five meals all well-cooked, well-presented and tasty. All staff were pleasant and welcoming, even the younger ones. The owner was friendly and couldn't do enough for us (and we had a two-year old with us). Can't comment on the choice of beer as I am a cider drinker! Wouldn't hesitate to go back here.

The Green Man, Hatton

Regarding the previous review, all I can say is that they have acted upon your comments because we popped in here for Saturday lunch yesterday and it was absolutely fine; nicely cooked, tasty and hot (didn't sample dessert though). Nice place - welcoming and friendly staff, warm and comfortable, even the toilets were spotless. Perhaps the piped music was a bit loud. Great place also if you like low planes, when they are landing on runway 27L!! Would definitely come back and eat here.

Paper Moon, Dartford

Wife and I have started frequenting this Wetherspoons as the other one in Dartford (Flying Boat) started going downhill after a few months of opening. Staff in the Paper Moon are friendly and service is always quick. Cannot fault the 'curry and pint' for 4.59 on a Thursday night!!

The Plough and Harrow, Eynsford

Came here for a family meal in August 2011. We liked the interior decor and would come back here for a drink but not sure we'd eat here again. One or two dishes we had were nice but others disappointing; service not particularly impressive.

Bricklayers Arms, Chipstead

Came here Saturday lunchtime, for a meal in the restaurant; there were nine of us and we had nine delicious meals - everybody happy! Food was superb, staff very nice and friendly. A bit of a wait for our main courses but the pub was busy and then nine freshly-cooked dinners all came out together. Very reasonable prices too. Looking forward to going back!

The Flying Boat, Dartford

Despite what is often said about Wetherspoons pubs, this is, quite frankly, the best thing that has happened in Dartford for years! Wife and I have visited The Flying Boat on four occasions (evening times) - the staff are friendly and attentive, the ambience and decor are very pleasant, prices are great (you cannot buy two pints in London and still get change from a fiver, but you can here!). There's a good mix of ages amongst the customers, meaning it appeals to everyone. It's nice to have a pub locally where you can get a decent cider (i.e. Westons Old Rosie). If it continues to be this pleasant we shall continue eating and drinking here. Well done to all concerned!

Plough, Dartford

Unlikely to become a chinese; the whole of the east side of Lowfield Street from the town centre to the swimming baths (including the Plough) is to be demolished as part of the town centre redevelopment. Tesco is taking over Dartford!

The Mad Hatter Hotel, Southwark

What a disappointment, this was one of the few pubs to sell draught Scrumpy Jack but now they've stopped it. Still a nice place and the food is good but with no decent cider, and lager at 3.90 a pint (when other pubs in London still sell good lager for 2.50 a pint) it's time to find a new venue. Shame.

Plough, Dartford

Pub has now been boarded-up! Looks quite permanent this time.

The Phoenix, Oxford Circus

Nearly always busy in here and at least they do decent cider for a London pub (Westons and Addlestones on draught), but previous reviewer is right - service is far too slow. Haven't tried the food - not sure if I will!

Plough, Dartford

Update: Pub has re-opened but haven't tried it yet (02/02/08).

The Mad Hatter Hotel, Southwark

Have been coming here for a number of years; nice relaxing place and usually fairly quiet if you want to hold a conversation! Food has got even better over the last year. My only negative comment is about the big screen showing football.

The Carpenters Arms, Ilsington

Visited this pub in November 07 (several times over the weekend!). Lovely! Nice friendly staff and locals and superb cider- Heron Valley and Inchs. Looking forward to returning.

Plough, Dartford

Previous reviewers were not far wrong! Pub was served a closure notice after a 'disturbance' on 12/01/08. It remains closed at the moment (23/01/08).
