The White Hart, Lower Horsebridge

The last time I came here about four years ago it was the sort of place where you wiped your feet on the way out, so seeing it lately whilst driving past looking all spruced up we thought we would try it again. We visited for Sunday lunch and it was really heaving, got a good welcome and a fine pint of Wells Bombardier to start, the barman found us a table and dining commenced with two superb roast dinners, nothing fancy, not gastro or fine cuisine just good old fashioned grub and plenty of it served by a smiley and slighty stressed looking waitress who seemed to struggle while coping with all of the pub diners on her own. A second pint, this time of well kept Harveys finished the afternoon to perfection. Negatives? minor but details count to me, the yellow gloop that was presented as English mustard looked radioactive and tasted awful, it may be cheap but some corners are not worth cutting and more waiting staff are obviously required to give a quality service. All in all though a great experience for us and we will return. A worthy 8.5/10 for me

The Bridge Inn, Winchelsea

I always feel a touch unwelcome here when visiting just to sup ale, everything appears to be geared towards the dining folk and the bar feels like a waiting room for the restaurant.

That said the pub itself is always sparklingly clean and though the beers are not always my preferred tipple they are well kept, and I own a springer who truly appreciates the dog garden, nice touch.

The Queens Head, Icklesham

This is what pubs are about, easily the best pub in the area, always has a good selection of well kept ales and a warm friendly atmosphere, OK so the food is a bit dated and I can't remember the last time the menu actually altered (I have only been coming here for eight years though!)

I think the reason is that nothing gets changed is that old chestnut "If it ain't broke then don't fix it" and I must admit I am inclined to agree.
