The Charlotte Despard, Archway

Whilst there is a great deal about the decor and layout of this place I don't like, I must pay tribute to the excellent new landlord for the efforts he has made recently in trying to make a go of this place.

I particularly like the fact that he said he would be happy to charge 5 a pint if it meant none of the locals from The Lion or The Whittington Stone ever set foot in the place.

Respect!

The Lion, Archway

Awful pub. Toilets are probably the cleanest part of it. Would have closed years ago if it wasn't for its fortuitous location across from the tube station. Avoid at all costs, unless you're a 50+ year old unemployed Irishman stinking of piss in which case you'll feel right at home.

The Mother Red Cap, Archway

Not the worst local in the world, but spoiled a bit by the tempremental barstaff and ever strong Irish contingent.

Angies, Holloway

Currently closed. No idea if/when it's going to reopen. Was a decent enough boozer and would be sad to see it bite the dust.

The Archway Tavern, Archway

This place benefits from the fact that it is significantly better than its neighbouring pubs, and attracts a much younger crowd then the nearby Lion or Whiitington Stone (not hard admittedly). When bands are playing at the weekend its worth a visit, but is best avoided when quieter during the week as the quality of beer is variable at best. Has always had potential, but as yet it remains mostly unfulfilled.

O'Neill's, Aberdeen

Standard chain pub offering no more or no less than what you would expect. The upstairs bar isn't too bad at the weekend though, with the DJ playing a good mix of classic tunes past and present. You can't beat a wee bit of nostalgia!

Justice Mill, Aberdeen

Awful place, although probably no worse than any other Lloyds bar.

The Illicit Still, Aberdeen

The unusual, quirky layout is unfortunately the best thing about the Illicit Still. Beer, prices and service all serve to disappoint. Shame really, because this place does have some potential.

The Grill, Aberdeen

A fine watering hole indeed. Excellent selection of beer and whisky. Has a very local feel to it, but in a welcoming sort of way. Not at all intimidating as you might expect from looking at the exterior. One of the better pubs in Aberdeen, and best in the city centre by miles.

The Triplekirks, Aberdeen

Agree completely with the previous reviews. I remember drinking here in the mid to late nineties and it was a wonderful place to spend the evening. Sadly Scream have destroyed yet another fine establishment. Shame on you!

The Prince of Wales, Aberdeen

Decent pub with a warm and traditional feel. Easy to miss given its location, but certainly worth a visit.

The Old Blackfriars, Aberdeen

Probably more a pub to go to for food rather than drink. Staff are friendly but a bit on the slow side, especially when busy in the evening/weekend.

The Bobbin, Aberdeen

Another run of the mill Scream pub. Fine if you're a student, but if you're after a pint before the football it's best to try somewhere further down King Street. Terrible service too, even by Scream standards.

New Inn, Walsall

Superb place. Landlord has been in charge for over 33 years and has resisted the temptation to refurbish the pub so far (the pool table is at leat 35 years old!) so it retains its original charm. Definitely one to visit.

New Navigation Inn, Walsall

A bit rough and ready, but not in an intimidating way. Just your run of the mill local shitty area pub really.

Duke of York, Walsall

Strange little pub. Most of the older locals were very friendly and chatty, whilst the young Asian lads were a bit more aggressive. It was the first time I've ever had someone throw a pack of cards at me in a pub!

One To Five, Wrexham

Typical modern Wetherspoonesque bar completely lacking in soul or imagination. Fine for watching the football in, but no use for anything else.

Golden Lion Inn, Wrexham

This pub is like a throw back to the 90s, but in a good way! One of the better places to go in Wrexham.

The Sun Inn, Llangollen

Spent a couple of hours in here recently. Decent enough pub with a good, vibrant atmosphere. The type of place you can go for a proper old fashioned night out. Shame that the barstaff insisted on using plastic glasses despite there being plenty of proper ones still available. One of the better pubs in Llangollen though. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

The Wynnstay Arms Hotel, Llangollen

Had the misfortune of staying at this hotel recently. Very unfriendly place. Landlord was a right miserable git, as was the barmaid who seemed to have had an accident with a bottle of red hair dye. The young barman was nice enough though, but couldn't compensate for the dirty, overpriced hotel rooms, the foul tasting lager (don't think the pipes have been cleaned this century), or the stale smell of piss from the older locals who were huddled in the corner drawing us dirty looks. There are plenty of better places to stay/eat/drink in Llangollen than this cess pit. Have given it a rating of 1 out of 10 only because it is marginally better than the truly horrendous Benson's across the road from it!
