The Leather Bottle, Wimbledon Chase

A gem in an otherwise pub-free area. Friendly staff, good beers (of all kinds) but Greene King IPA and Abbot always a treat. Some good guest ales too. Really good food as well.

The Bricklayers Arms, Luton

Luton's finest pub, great selection of well-kept "session-strength" ales. Very friendly bar staff and locals too, ranging from poets and musicians to normal people. Plenty to look at on the walls if your mate's at the bar too.

The Black Horse, Luton

I'm delighted to say that the Gents toilets aren't nearly as bad as the below comments make out.

Anyway, the important stuff: Very nice and well-kept beer (I tried one of the Oakhams and then sessioned with Hobgoblin). Very friendly staff and a real open fire for instant cosiness. A fine alternative to the Bricklayers if you find yourself on the other side of the tracks.

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Yes, all very historical but as a pub leaves a lot to be desired. My pint of something called Redemption tasted like Jeyes Fluid, absolutely undrinkable, the barman tried a bit and said "Well, it tasted like this last night, you're welcome to buy a pint of something else if you want." Aw, thanks mate, you're all heart. I'm sure you're the expert, but just don't ever expect us back.

The Woodpecker, Spetisbury

Outstanding, best pub in the area by (and for) miles. Good range of delicious well-kept beers, always very friendly staff (a friendly landlord who actually likes beer is a rare treasure these days) - having seen it nearly die on its arse thanks to brewery neglect etc. a few years ago, it's great to see such a revival of its fortunes. Always a pleasure to drop in, they even have a Vinyl Night on Sundays where you can take records along and play them, genius.
