Bohemia, St Helier

used to be the beaufort hotel and its fair to say has gone quite a bit more up market. plenty of fine looking ladies in the bar, but they not really interested in you unless you have got a huge bulge in your wallet, amongst other things. prob the most expensive bar in jersey, but still got its plus points for sure.

The Tenby Bars, St Aubin

st aubins is a nice place and this boozer is one of the better ones in the area - particulalry if you are after a few drinks before heading along the pier to one of the nearby restaurants. look out for jim bergerac.

The Swan, St Peter Port

went in last week a couple of times and basically they have painted the place and employed a couple of more 'professional looking' staff. i was hoping for more changes myself, so its a bit of a disappointment but at least its miles better than before. dont think the old soaks will agree though - they will get forced out before long.

The Cock and Bull, St Peter Port

agree in the summer the midweek music livens the place up a lot, and the venue itself is quite good. But cant bring myslef to say i like it as much as the other reviews because there is still too much facial hair and leather patches on cardigan sleeve elbows for my liking. probably your old geography teacher drinks here. one of the best supported places to watch rugby too, with your jumper knotted around your shoulders and your boating shoes on.

Cafe en Seine, Dublin

Certainly not for the traditional irishman who wants to sink a guinness and mumble platitudes. If however you dont mind spending extra to be in a great venue with some of the finest looking women on earth then get amongst it - but you do have to bite your tongue at some of the complete plumb-duffs that go in there from time to time. I love the place, one of my top 5 bars in the world.

The Bay, Port Erin

Easily the best place to go in the iom - which isnt that difficult to achieve though as almost every pub is stuck in the 1960's, with the exception of the few new wine bars and such that are beginning to spring up in Douglas as a result of a long overdue investment. Thankfully the locals are usually so pleasant that the dated features and bleakness of each venue becomes irrelevant.

Jaks, Douglas

If you want to get lashed with your mates and scream at the referee during a footy match (assuming you can see the tv through the smoke) this is the place for you. If you want to have a coffee and read the times, go to the library.

The 'ronseal' of boozers....so if you dont like them loud, stay away. Bar staff are very friendly, which comes as a bit of a suprise as some of the clients appear to verge on being 'unsavoury' after a few pints and if their team is losing - but i agree with the staff comment - they sort things out well when tempers run high.

Bar George, Douglas

Bit of a mixed bag this one, i like the benches and tables and open plan style, but it probably does cost a bit more and there are predominantly suited types in there....personally i am happy with that as i would rather have some atmosphere and some women in a bar rather than just no noise and a couple of old soaks smoking roll-ups and mumbling in the corner. Considering the island is overwhelmingly grey in nature, the people of the isle of man are easily some of the nicest i have ever met, and therefore even if the venue itself isnt ideal, the people can make it better.

Lido's Wine Bar, St Helier

Always quite busy and very central as it touches the old market. Wine bar and food area seperate, usually full of suits out for lunch and the rest of the day. Staff usually very nice and some colorful characters in there willing to spend a few bob to enjoy themselves. Lots of chatting and business talk, so not usually a place for the ale suppers doing the daily star crossword.

Chambers, St Helier

One of the finest all round pubs/bars i have ever been to anywhere in the world. Has something for everyone as the place is very big and cut into different sections with a large cavern area/stage at the back for live music and entertainment. All ages are welcome but not many over 45s after 9 or 10. Late licence until 1 or 2am most of the time. Beauty.

Blues, St Helier

a fine mix between jersey finance workers and Polish seasonal workers, more wine bar then pub of course so not everyones cup of earl gray. Kevin is a well known and well liked figure locally and will guarantee a warm welcome to anyone up for enjoying themselves.

Bar 10, St Helier

Havent been since the refit, but this is a lively 'start at lunchtime and dont go back to work' watering hole for the suits. Great if you are a part of it, not so good if you belong to a different walk of life.

The Old Portelet Inn, St Brelade

One of the friendliest pubs in the channel islands and a great location too. Traditional features and good food, one of the best out of town 'country' style pubs around - has a seperate section/play area for families if you are into that sort of thing.

The Sports Bar, Castel

sports bar? dont make me laugh. nice location and Mr Gover is an entertaining character who offers good value for money, so i hope it remains open for the drinkers in that part of the island.

The Salerie Inn, Guernsey

Bit of a dump - but the sunday roasts are good - other than that, i dont think ill miss it.

The Swan, St Peter Port

Has always been dull and lifeless but is due to open any day now after a total refurbishment and thankfully is now owned by one of the big private investors in the catering industry. Expect to pay a little bit more than before but in much nicer surroundings and with much more on offer generally.

The Bankers Draught, St Peter Port

Since the refit this boozer has given the spanish-archer to most of the lowlife and as such now has a fine blend of young and old. Simon the main man is a good bloke for a spurs fan and Laura and the girls are up for a good time once you have got to know them and they have realised you are not a mutant. Unfortuantely it is next to that 'refuge of the damned' called , but thats not a major problem as thats for late night drinking and so the two crowds dont really cross each others path. some fit students are in there too and are up for making the night that little bit sweeter from time to time.

The Rockmount, Castel

Potentially during the summer months this boozer should be one of Guernseys finest locations. Unfortunately for me i dont find the public bar too exciting and the front bar with the views and outside seating area 10 feet away from the beach SHOULD be great, but is spoiled by the sort of people who wear their sunglasses on their heads at night in the middle of winter. Too many nobodies who think they are sporting heroes/somebodies.

The Ship And Crown, St Peter Port

Much better now with the new decor as your feet dont stick to the carpet anymore. Also with the smoking ban now upon us there are more females coming into the ship than before - some to rival even the collection of fine looking things Pontin employs behind the bar. For non-Guerns go to the ship on Wed, Fri and Sat evenings - no other boozer in Guernsey can match the ship for atmosphere whn it hits the spot - usually 10 pm onwards when the jukebox gets cranked up. If all that fails then at least you can laugh at Marks comedy spectacles or dart-player style shirts.
