The Rising Sun, Mill Hill

A charming local pub, which now benefits enormously from having ownership that care about beer, food, presentation and all those important things a great pub must have.
Having been void of atmosphere for far too long, The Rising Sun is now back on track.
The beer, Adnams, Abbot and Youngs is still superb, now complimented with an impressive food menu, which one would more likely see in a good restaurant.
The ever increasing number of locals returning here and staying, and new-comers comments on their enjoyment of the evening is proof of the cordial nature this favourite of mine has re-achieved.

Ye Olde White Bear, Hampstead

A pub that seems to be steadily improving. A better range of ales on now than in recent times, served by congenial staff that make an effort. Very busy on quiz night (Weds/Thurs?) and open a little later than some of the pubs locally Thursday-Sunday. Well woth a visit.

The King William IV, Hampstead

Disappointing visit once again! After eventually being served, on trying the two ales that were on, neither were drinkable. Giving the old place the benefit of the doubt, I went back a week or so later, to find only one undrinkable ale on. I would have been happy on both occasions to have had a Gunness, if I could find one redeeming feature to warrant spending further time in there.

The Horseshoe, Hampstead

Recently revisited, still has a selection of superb ales also a couple brewed on site, food excellent, staff helpful and friendly. Food quicker to arrive this time too. No Formica or Ikea seen here despite others previous reports, more of a minimalist feel. Overall very good, will definitely return soon.

The Duke of Hamilton, Hampstead

As Hampstead pubs go, this is a gem. Always full of character and characters. I liked it when the previous management were there, but love it now. Busier than it used to be, the ales remain in excellent condition, with an ever changing guest. The Duke' is not a bar and not a restaurant, but a super Hampstead pub that other local hostelries could learn from.

The King William IV, Hampstead

Recently re-furbished, now looks better from the outside. The inside however shows old wallpaper and cabling generously overpainted and excessively illuminated. This used to be a fun pub some years ago, full of characters and attitude queens, sadly less character now but some evenings quite busy. The selection of ale here was rarely a good choice in my opinion and never kept well. The new-look comes with new ales, Theakston XB, Mild and Old Peculiar, although they are rarely all on, not great when they are on, and difficult to purchase through staff often too involved with chatting to eachother to serve customers. This pub always had potential and still holds potential. I would hate to see it become another restaurant or estate agent. A little more effort required please ...

The Horseshoe, Hampstead

I have visited this pub on several occasions and always found it to have a good atmosphere with congenial barstaff. Have eaten there, food excellent, although service a little slow. Outstanding ale brewed on site. The McL Summer an excellent, fragrant, pale session beer and Best the darker choice very good too. Adnams and usually one other on gravity. Looking forward to trying the stout / porter rumoured for the winter months. Sometimes a little smokey in there now the windows are closed, this will of course soon not be a problem. Overall a great gastro-pub, well worth a visit.
