Beautiful location just outside of the village of Chislet. Wonderful scenery with a stream with swans nearby. The food is nothing fancy but is home-cooked and very tasty. But its the beers, oh yes the wonderful well kept beers that stuck with me. Not even hand pumped, but taken straight out of the barrel. Pure nectar! Good old fashioned pub atmosphere with Quizzes, Runs, Dominoes and outside pastimes such as Soft ball, Rugby, cricket, & Walks.

BEEN MANY TIMES. THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GREAT (EVEN WHEN THORLEY TAVERNS TOOK OVER FOR A WHILE). TWICE WHEN HAVING A STEAK I WAS'NT GIVEN A STEAK KNIFE BUT DIDNT NEED IT! YOU COULD HAVE USED A BUTTER KNIFE. SEVERAL WELL KEPT BEERS INCLUDING GREEN KING & SPITFIRE. GOOD ATMOSHPERE. LOCATED NEAR THE HISTORIC MANSTON AIRPORT. NOT BEEN THERE? GO ASAP!

Rennie and Elaine have owned quite a few pubs in & around Margate, now they concentrate on just this one. Situated on the Canterbury road a mile outside Margate. Used as local by Garlinge Village and Westbrook Tends to lean towards a 'sports' pub, but a nice pub nevertheless. Elaine has taken over the kitchen and the food is really good (try the Sunday lunch). Several theme nights and events a week. The missus & me had our silver anniversay do there. They now have en-suite rooms which are really turned out nice.

We had a valentine dinner there as everywhere else was booked up that night. Good thing we could'nt go elswhere, as the food and service was first class. Real good chefs serve up wonderful food. Beer kept well. There is a hotel that vistors always compliment. Its tucked away up on the westcliffe, but well worth a visit.

I am not sure what planet the previous reviews are on! OK there have been a couple of dodgy nights, but as a regular visitor I've found the food passable, (want 5 star - go and pay for it!) and the beer in the main is well kept. ANY Weatherspoons play down the fruit machines and god-awful music. Better than a certain Station pub down the road that caters for a rougher element!

The Gate Inn, Chislet
I Can't agree more with the 5th Earl. Went there again recently and had a 'Gate Megga Grill'. Wonderful. A pity it can't be Lent all year! These lagers have a place, in Spain or Aussie, but you can't beat the great British beer. Nothing like in the world. All power to the Gate and other good pubs.
