The Wells Tavern, Hampstead

Another completely spoiled Hampstead pub. Makes we want to weep. Nice sitting outside but basically a restaurant for the nouveau "sophisticated" crowd who wouldn't know a decent pub if their mother knitted one for them

The Whittington Cat, Highgate

Friendly typical London pub. Nothing special but worth a look for traditionalness

The Whittington Stone, Highgate

Sat outside in the sun. Lively locals but not too scarey. Dismal choice of booze. Had a couple though so can't be that bad.

The Rose and Crown, Chippenham

Slightly run down and a bit seedy, shame. Don't avoid but wouldn't travel

The Three Crowns, Chippenham

Can't add much to what has been said. A real blast from the past, in the very best sense. Worth going out of way to visit. Top pork pies!

The Royal Oak, Oxford

Labyrinthine pub. Friendly and helpful staff, great range of boozes, marred by smell of stale fish and fat (as so many pubs are these days)

The Gardeners Arms, Oxford

Great cosy pub slightly overshadowed by the magnificent Rose and Crown up the road. I want to live on this street!

The Rose and Crown PH, Oxford

Oh crikey. Everything the previous reviews have said and more. Out of the way but well worth the trip. Top marks.

The Lamb and Flag, Oxford

Not at all bad, but nothing too special. Nice atmosphere and not as precious as some Oxford pubs.

The White Horse, Oxford

Great little pub, rather crowded but it is dinnertime. No more expensive than any other Oxford pub, if that's a concern. Worth a visit.

Royal Blenheim, Oxford

Nice hidden away boozer run by a friendly and helpful welsh chap. Loads of beers and a couple of decent ciders.

The Southgate, Devizes

Great pub, friendly, good booze, unusual decor and a particularly skittish cat.

The Crown Inn, Pewsey

Off the main drag but worth finding. Good place, and open in the afternoon! Suntrap beer garden.

Royal Oak, Pewsey

Nothing special but nothing wrong with it. Friendly staff. Bit frayed at the edges!

French Horn, Pewsey

Food-orientated but pleasant enough pub near the canal. Three beers, Stowford Press, usual lagers. Good range of bottled stuff. Friendly staff

The Royal Oak, Cheadle

Basic but pleasant boozer with an interesting array of locals. Not posh
! Probably the best that Cheadle has to offer.

The Blue Bell, York

Excellent traditional boozer. Very small so can get crowded. Well worth a visit.

The Bell Inn, Banbury

Lovely pub
Good atmosphere and music, friendly locals, luxurious smoking facilities. Sadly only Strongbow cider. Worth a visit.

Ye Olde Reindeer, Banbury

Lovely old pub. Always visit when in Banbury and never disappoints. Always found bar staff friendly, and never seen the telly on!

Castle, Swindon

It is still open! Opens from 3:00 most of the week, 12:00 at weekends. It's a proper back street pub with a set of friendly regulars (I own up to being one of them) and staff. Two bars, pool table and a suntrap of a smoking area. No food as such but rolls available most weekends. Doombar (recently got the Cask Marque), Stella, Kronenburg, Stowford Press, Thtchers Gold, etc, on draft. Music most Saturdays and every Sunday (altough beware - chances are it'll be Irish then), football on good screens This used to be an Irish-ish pub but is getting over that now. Tina the landlady of the last two years or so is doing a great job buffing the place up.
