The Star Inn, Guildford

I've never had a bad night in here. A Proper Pub. :-)

Slug and Lettuce, Guildford

There seem to be one or two of reasonably competent barmen but all the waitresses seem to be purely ornamental - and that's only if you like Peaches Geldof clones.

At one point on my last visit several customers were wandering about like little lost souls looking for help whilst most of the staff seemed to be having a fag at the front entrance or loudly slagging off the kitchen staff to the bar staff.

I never thought i'd say this but I preferred it when it was RSVP!

Jo Clarks, Guildford

It took me a while to get used to this place because of it's "difficult" lay out but it's amongst the friendliest most relaxed establishments in Guildford and we always pop in here at some point during our way either up or down the hill.

The Five and Lime, Guildford

Not a fan. This place is long past it's heyday if you ask me.

The Drummond, Guildford

I really enjoy the friendly atmosphere in here. My fellow drinkers seem decent enough chaps in this pub. I've only been in quite briefly for a swift one or two though so I don't have much more to add.

All Bar One, Guildford

Closed for refurbishment? is there any evidence of refurbishment happening or is it just "Closed"? I wouldn't be at all surprised if this dump never comes back to life as every experience I have had here has been pretty dire and it seems I am not alone!

The Boatman, Guildford

Meh.

They forced me to start a tab when they refused to take a debit card for the wine we ordered whilst we looked at the menu and then charged me a penny for the privilege.

They dont take card payments for drinks evidently.

Then from 10:30 onwards they kept haranguing us to pay our bill which we already had. There were only seven customers in the place, surely they could manage to keep track of two or three tables?

Oh and they couldnt - or wouldnt - print out the bill for us whats that all about?

And we were deposited on the pavement at 11:20 precisely.

Go back? Not likely!

The Quays, Mytchett

Anybody braved it since the refit?

The Miners Arms, Mytchett

You know how some "locals" pubs remind you of Phoenix Nights a bit?

Well this one doesn't.

You just feel that you're in imminent danger of being stabbed.

And the throwback behind the bar? Well put it this way. I could hear Duelling Banjos. :-0

The Waterwitch, Odiham

BBMatt Are you kidding?

As far as I know The Waterwitch has been a Chef & Brewer for about 8 years - And before that it was a bit of a hole. I used to skulk here wearing too much black and scowling over my snakebite about fifteen years ago.

Now granted it has had patchy management over the years but I like the way it's run now. I find te staff lovely (apart from there is that *one* stunningly unfriendly girl.)

Short of removing lots of tables to build a bigger bar, or bulding a bar in the garden what else can they do?

Yes there are logistical problems, but it's friendly, the food is pretty good and it's one of the few places I feel I can consistently rely on.

The White House, Guildford

My favourite pub in the whole of Guildford!

I love coming here because theyre always so darn friendly and chatty. :-)

I hadnt been in for a little while when I came here last week but I noticed that theyve had a bit of refit with new tables, sofas and a lick of paint by the look of it.

The changes are subtle but it looks very very good.

As did our barman - but enough of that! ;-)

The warm friendly atmosphere seems to attract lovely people as customers too, its always nice to meet new people when youre out but its all very low pressure.

There are no rabid singles scanning the horizon for the next notch on the bedpost. (I understand that this is actually a disadvantage for some of you!)
