Slak Bar, Cheltenham

Gutted when I heard that this place was closing. It was never going to be 5* or fine dinning but it was always busy, great atmosphere and inspite the look of the place it housed the nicest staff and punters I have ever been.
Bit small, bit run down but that all adds to the atmosphere. Many a great night had here.

Pheasant Inn, Chippenham

Having experienced the Pub through various landlords/landladies I think that making it a carvery was a good idea.
As already said it does exactly what it states on the box. Food is okay, beer is good and the staff are friendly. The type of place I might go to after that Saturday night to refuel and avoid cooking.
What I do like is being able to mix and match, order a starter from the menu, hit the carvery and finish with a pudding.
It was never going to be a fine dining restaurant.
Thumbs up.

The Rowden Arms, Chippenham

My expectations were low to begin with given the chain so it wouldn't have taken much to impress. Sadley this did not happen.
I should just make a list.
Staff behind the bar were complaicent, rude, miserable and unhelpful. When I was asked I stated three times what beer I wanted as he poured my partners wine in front of us and he still had to ask as he was talking to the other person behind the bar.
Cuttlery was dirty, plate was cracked and the beer was bad which I didn't think was possible given what was on offer.
The food itself was fine for what it was (although over cooked).
The only redeeming feature was the waitress who was polite friendley and helpful.

The Star Inn, Sparsholt

Just moved to the area.
Very fussy with my Pubs having worked in the industry for many years.
I heard that the place had a refurb and was now quite nice. I must say that it did not disappoint.
The beer was good and the wine choice for a place of this size well thought out. The menu and food was varied and delicious. Whilst it was quiet when my partner and I arrived it soon picked up and the atmosphere was buzzing.
Good to see owners who put a lot of care and effort into the place.
