Coachman Inn, Snainton

I was initially put off by the low mark but ended up going in anyway. We only stopped for a beer as we were moving on but it was so pleasant I had another. Very pleasant surroundings and service.

The White Lion, Barthomley

As I was working at the corporate prison down the road I came here as often as I could. It was a complete refreshing alternative to a week of intense training delivery. Everything was as it should be for a 17th C pub including the rat.
Even the regulars were just right from the legal to the tattooed bikers.
Any criticsm has to be that it was very warm inside-due to the excellent fires.

The Loggerheads, Shrewsbury

Well worth a visit for the interior, invoking an earlier age. Had a great night with Mike Harding in here many years ago.

The Hebrides, Edinburgh

Pleasant wee place to enjoy a pint especially if Scotland are playing.

Saw one of the funniest pub incidents in my life here. A group of youngsters trooped in and all headed to a table in the corner. After much discussion the elected one approached the bar to place the order. Before this was even uttered the bar person had identified the collective youthfulness of the group and invoked the law. The elected one then reported back to the group who then made for the door. At which point some of the regulars starting singing-
"youre too young ,youre too young". A salutory lesson.

Hops, Crewe

While working in the area made a special trip to see what this place was like. Very impressed, a choice to rival the nearby Borough. divided between handpumps, draught fruit beer and the bottled collection contained within the total non-pub decor. Spent a superb evening sitting outside putting the world to rights. .

Cafe Royal, Edinburgh

Like the Canny Mans this is a pub that everyone has to visit. The customers change throughout the day and I wish I had the time to watch them all. Last time I was in during the fest we had a superb pint (Harvieston Game Burd). Have been known to nip next door at times to get served.

Sandy Bells, Edinburgh

Hard to pass by-sometimes wish it was in a quieter street but hey-ho. Take a wrong turning going to the toilet and you are in the band.

Kay's Bar, Edinburgh

Get there early, never leave. It is funny how these wee places are always full and barn type pubs are empty. Nothing to it really, get the decor right, leave it alone and sell good beer.

The Halfway House, Edinburgh

Great stop before Waverley. An oasis in the storm, always enjoy the excellent beer and sometimes the snacks. The railway memorabilia is well worth a perusal.

The Jolly Angler, Manchester

I frequented this place way back in the late 70s & 80s. With Dave behind the bar anything could happen. Pea & ham soup you could eat with your fingers. Glad to see it is still attracting the eclectic clientele and always try and have a pint when passing.

The Canny Man's, Morningside

If you think it has a cold atmosphere-it is in Morningside! It is unique and well worth the visit. I have had great times there from wakes to job interviews. It used to have Go-Go dancers who nipped in to Greasy Alecs in their breaks and warmed a young cubs heart. Yes, the dust has gone but the curios remain.
Long may it reign.
