The Princess of Prussia, Tower Hill
A bog-standard Shepherd Neame Pub with the identikit interior. Empty on a Friday night and the atmosphere was a bit downbeat to non-existent.

The Old Dispensary, Whitechapel
Very well kept place. All the people I was with - real ale drinkers - really liked it despite it's modern interior. However it was a bit too cavernous for my tastes with the high ceiling creating that din of chatter. Not a cosy feel. Free plates of sophisticated snacks were brought round which was very impressive, on a Friday night too.

The Pride of Spitalfields, Shoreditch
Nice little pub the like of which you have to visit on purpose rather than just stumbling upon, which makes for a good atmosphere. Helpful staff.

Large pub with quite a few different rooms including one that looks like a little art gallery, and an outside courtyard area at the back, which makes it quite quirly and likeable. Mixed clientelle, definitely not dominated by city types or trendies although there are examples of both to be found. Bar staff seemed quite efficient and professional and could handle a Friday night crowd.

I love this place. Very much a local pub but very freindly and you can usually find a seat, when other pubs around here are rammed.

Fantastic place. Genuinely cool - as opposed to 'trendy' and wonderful Cornish beer.

The Goldsmith Pub and Dining Room, Borough
Went there at about 9.30pm on a Friday and it was empty - completely empty. It has the feel of somewhere that is really just about food and doesn't have much of an evening life. It's laid out mainly with a few long tables designed for dining and not drinking. The staff were not unfriendly but we couldn't escape the feeling that we were keeping them up.

The Albert Arms, Elephant and Castle
Nice enough. Came here on a Friday about 9ish and was pretty empty, just an odd smattering of office workers and locals. Not exactly friendly but not unfriendly either. Not a great selection of beers and some of those they had were off.

Really liked this place. It's changed from a regular boozer to a gastropub since the last time i was here a couple of years ago, but whereas that statement would normally ring alarm bells, they've done this one up really well. By that I mean that it still has a pubby enough feel and atmosphere. It is very dark but, unlike some other reviewers, I quite liked that. Slight downside is that it's a bit on the pricey side.

Not bad but not too remarkable either. It has an 'unspoilt' feel to it and a certain old-tyme quirkiness but nothing you'd call charm. Went on a Friday and it wasn't too busy.

The Brown Bear, Whitechapel
Nothing special about this place and the real ale was not in good shape. One of those pubs which is just kept rather than well kept. Not too much care an attention.
