The Cross Keys, Norton Fitzwarren
A newish landlord, I believe. Made us feel very welcome and was very friendly. And the real ale was top notch.

The Lethbridge Arms, Bishops Lydeard
Oh dear. Paid a visit to this pub for a few drinks with my friends. The decor seems to indicate a confused picture of what this pub is trying to be and looks like a hotch-potch, mainly tat. The manager doesn't seem to know that a pint should be exactly that - and a half-inch gap at the top of the glass isn't the done thing. Left after just one pint. No ambience and short-changed on the beer front.

Great pub but the management leaves a lot to be desired. Food is frequently not up to scratch but the landlord/chef is too cocky to accept the fact. The landlady can be deeply unpleasant to her staff in public and the place now lacks a personality behind the bar. The beer is usually good but the prices are amogst the highest in this part of the world.

The Holman Clavel Inn, Culmhead
What a disaster! This is the worst pub I have visited for decades. The pub looks very tired from the exterior and things got worse when I entered. Whilst I waited almost ten minutes for anyone to appear at the bar it was obvious that the place was reeking of neglect and lack of variety. Just one flavour crisps and three real ales that were all undrinkable. Of four pints (two different types) purchased every one had huge amounts of scummy sediment on the bottom of the glass. When I went to return the beer no-one was at the bar for another ten minutes. Whilst all this was going on the only group of people eating in the pub walked out after waiting for an hour for salads and ploughman's. One of their party had already returned a dirty glass they were drinking out of and the next three glasses were dirty too. My advice is not to use this pub if you have any respect for hygiene, good beer or decent food.

The George Inn, Middlezoy
Popped in on a quiet Friday evening but enjoyed the friendly welcome and very good real ale.
