Lovely olde-worlde pub full of character - a throw back to the the 1920s/1930s - with Courage beers straight from the barrel - and full of real characters. The food is first rate - fillet steak is out of this world. There is always a warm welcome and the service is first class. Highly recommended - but don't expect modern day luxuries.

My personal favourite on the Isles of Scilly - an excellent pint of Doom Bar, served by a really friendly and helpful landlord who values his customers. There is also quite an extensive menu, including daily specials, which are cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. A quite basic pub, but highly recommended.

A pub full of character serving an excellent pint of Doom Bar and lovely food from an extensive menu, including daily specials (normally locally caught fish of the season).

Nice pub, full of character, serving a good range of St Austell beers. Good menu choice, but the service was dreadfully slow and the food best described as average.

Good choice of St Austell beers - not as nice as Sharp's Doombar, but that is my personal opinion and others will undoubtedly prefer the St Austell. Limited choice on menu - the meal was alright without being exceptional. Appears to be very much the locals local and did get extremely noisy later in the evening.

Wonderful pub in a lovely location with great views. Choice of about four top class local hand-pulled beers and an excellent menu with choice to cover most tastes - and very tasty too. Highly recommended.

Very basic pub selling excellent hand-pulled beers and great portions of tasty fish and chips - more like a cafe than a pub, but full of character nonetheless.

Lovely traditional well preserved olde worlde pub, with a warm and friendly welcome, serving excellent real ales. Great choice of delicious meals to suit most tastes, with daily changing specials, mainly locally landed fish. Drinks and food are all served by happy and friendly staff, who clearly enjoy their work, which makes fro a happy ship. Highly recommended.

The Salisbury, Leicester Square
What a lovely old traditional and well-preserved London pub - just marvel at the beautiful old timber and etched glass panels. Good range of real ales and excellent service. A jazz trio was playing and, whilst it is not really my kind of music, it added to the overall ambience and was not in the least bit obtrusive - you could talk and still enjoy the background music. Highly recommended.

The Sherlock Holmes, Charing Cross
Good location and good choice of real ales. Contrary to previous reports, I found the bar staff friendly and helpful, and the service was good.

The Beaulieu Road Inn, Beaulieu
This pub has theme nights in the restaurant, when steak or fish are the speciality. Visited on a 'Fish Night' and the entrance to the restaurant was set out like a Fishmonger's Shop. You chose your fish ( I had Sea Bass), which was weighed and you paid for it according to its weight. A wide range of vegetables were included in the price.
Five real ales were on offer: Courage Directors, Wadworth Horizon, Fullers London Pride, Ringwood Best and Ringwood Thumper. I settled for the Directors and it was first rate.
Well recommended for both beer and food.

Extensive menu, particularly for fish lovers, and local Goddards beers. The meal and beer were first rate.

The Courage Directors was first rate and the fillet steak (cooked rare as requested) was truly wonderful. A beautiful traditional old world pub locked in a time warp - highly recommended.

Lovely pub in a fantastic location serving excellent beer and food. Service was excellent although it was very busy.

Visited twice and enjoyed excellent service, first rate food and some wonderful London Pride. The menu offered a wide range of food cooked to perfection.

Excellent beer (had two pints of Taverners brewed on the premises) and a very nice steak.

Had a couple of above average pints of Greene King Abbot Ale and an excellent rump steak. The service was first rate.

Contrary to the previous reports, my wife and I were highly delighted with this pub. The landlord greeted us when we arrived and was extremely obliging. I had two pints of HSB, which were both excellent, with a decent head (not too big) clinging to the glass all the way down. My wife enjoyed two glasses of Australian Shiraz. There was an extensive choice of food, which was both well presented and tasty.

King Harry's Bar (Glenbrook Hotel), Shanklin
Great choice of excellent draught beers - some changed during our ten day stay. Limited choice of wines.

Excellent range of reasonably priced and tasty food - but beer distinctly average with very limited choice. Good choice of wines.

The Crab and Lobster, Bembridge
Visited at lunchtime - very busy - good choice of beer, wine and food.
31 Jul 2009 22:24
Very good beer, excellent food and exceedingly good choice of fine wines.

Wonderful pub, wonderful beer and wonderful food. Visited three times in ten days - once at lunchtime and twice in the evening - had food and drink each time. The Directors "straight from the wood" was nothing less than superb and I would recommend anyone going to the Isle of Wight to call in at least once. My wife would have preferred more choice of wine but then this is "Beer in the Evening" after all.

The Crab and Lobster, Bembridge
Excellent real ales and great choice from the menu. In a lovely location, a little off the beaten track, adjacent to the Coastguard Station, with a lovely beer garden for those sunny days. Can be a little difficult to find, but well worth a visit.
