The Canbury Arms, Kingston Upon Thames

We were looked at with horror when we only wanted drinks and we were made to sit in the covered outside area although it wasn't busy inside. Very peculiar for a pub.
I wouldn't go back, it made no attempt to be welcoming at all and there are plenty of other pubs that ARE happy to serve drinks in the area.

The Plough, Coldharbour

After a long walk (and admittedly getting very lost!) we stumbled upon this pub and were relieved to read the menu board which sounded great although pricey.

However, we were barely halfway through our drinks when the landlady had already been incredibly unpleasent and rude to TWO different groups of people and we simply didn't want to stay there and give them our custom. She seems to unaware of the meaning of the word hospitality and didn't seem at all suited to the role of country village landlady.

I won't go back. Expensive and they don't deserve my money.

The Star, Dorking

A superb pub. Very small but friendly and relaxed. There's lots happening if you want it (films, open mic nights, vinyl nights, quizzes etc) or its just a great place for a pint on a big leather sofa by a fire.
It's nice to be in a pub that's trying to offer something more.

The Surrey Yeoman, Dorking

Nothing special about this pub. The decor is tired and in areas just dirty. The drinks are expensive for the town and when I ordered scampi and chips it arrived 20 minutes later - despite it being a quiet evening - and with only 12 chips! Yes the food's cheap but it's not a place for a 'pleasent' meal.
Very blokey/teenagery feel.

The Falkland Arms, Dorking

An incredibly friendly family-run pub. There's a 'big screen', dart board and pool table in the front bar and a quieter 'more civilised' area for dining or a quiet drink. It also has a lovely walled garden that's a sun trap in the summer and the landlady does excellent food at reasonable prices.

The Falkland has very simple decor but I can not rate it highly enough, since moving to the area the friendly nature of the owners and the locals has made it like a second living room!

The Abinger Hatch, Abinger Common

A lovely pub for a Sunday drink or lunch. Beautiful inside - proper beams and the ever traditional fairy lights! A good choice of good quality Sunday menu, worth the price. (Also interesting ales and wines.)

The summers and winters are equally catered for with a large beer garden or a roaring fire. It's over looking the village green, church and village hall. Perfectly english!

The only problem is that someone has to drive to get there. It's worth finding a virtuous non-drinker person to go with.

The Albert Arms, Norbiton

I was going to start this by talking about the decor and that about sums it up.
Very nicly decorated, a good selection of drinks, good for a drink or two but not enough atmosphere to ever be a 'local'.
BUT, and more importantly, WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE? Central London prices and really not all that special.

The Prince Of Wales, Dorking

Very much a friendly local. Get speaking to one person and soon you are chatting to the whole bar.
Small, friendly and comfortable. In many ways similar to being in someone's front room and although this may seem daunting at first it's a great 'boozer' that I now love.
Chav free and shows what seems to be all the big matches. Well recommended.

The Park Tavern, Kingston Upon Thames

We happened upon this after a walk in Richmond Park and it seemed to be the perfect 'local'.
No one stared as we walked in (as with so many locals pubs) and we were included in the banter within minutes.
A good variey of real ales as well as lagers and other drinks and excellent crisps! A perfect Sunday lunch time pub, lots of papers, the match on a big screen, but around the corner so not intrusive, and whilst we were there we were given a complimentary bowl of stir fry.
A proper pub, we'll definitly be returning. In fact the other half's probably to be found there now.
