| Packed on a recent Saturday night visit. Lots of tv screens which of course attracts a certain type of person. A couple of ales available but most punters were lager swillers. Not somewhere I'd recommend. wirraldrinker - 25 Aug 2019 22:07 |

| Called in here after a trip to the Pied Bull next door. Both these pubs have been on my mental to-do list for some time. On entering there is a long bar to the right hand side of the pub, and two sets of six hand pumps (ales are duplicated across the two banks). Initially it looks like an impressive selection, but on closer inspection one pump was off, two were Wainwright, one was Greene King IPA, one Hobgoblin, leaving only one which was a bit different. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all those ales, but it's nice to have something new. Shingle Shells (3.9%) by Adnams was the other ale on offer, and the one I went for, setting me back £2.60 which I thought was a bit of a bargain for a Chester city centre pub. A decent refreshing pint it was too. On my early evening visit the pub was not packed, but getting busy. Plenty of seating in front of the bar and to the rear. All in all a pleasant experience, and if I were to go again I would be hoping to see something a bit different on the ale selection front. RealAleRobUK - 2 Dec 2014 17:38 |

| Pleasant, clean, traditional style city centre pub situated next door to another great pub The Pied Bull. Nicholson's Pale Ale is their own beer which is made by St Austell Brewery. I think there were about 6 real ales available on my visit. Apparently the building dates from around 1600 & the cellar is haunted. Worth a visit. happytyskie - 31 Jul 2012 15:00 |
