Pretty much as per last visit apart from the fact they had an ale on in the guise of Doom Bar which I didn't like the looks of so stuck with Stella. Snarling_Mallard - 9 Sep 2019 20:25 |
Average medium sized chain pub a short walk from Roby station. No ale to speak of so had a pint of Stella. Okay for what it is. anonymous - 11 Dec 2012 21:27 |
Unfortunately, John and Debbie have moved on from the Stanley and the standard of cask beer has moved downward. Now limited in choice to Marstons EPA and Worthingtons it's hardly worth a visit. Atmosphere has changed and it's a real shame. Not what it used to be. Hope it improves with it's new Manager - Good luck to him. caskman21 - 4 May 2011 14:57 |
The Stanley has changed Managers since these previous reviews. It is now run by John and Debbie who have many years experience doing just that. It is now an M&B Sizzler. The food is served hot and extremely efficiently by a team of young and enegetic waiting staff. Also, it is so inexpensive it is such a bargain and therefore extremely popular. Now onto the Beer! There are three casks on at any one time. John is expert at conditioning them so expect a really top class pint. If proof is needed 'Cask Marque' have recently audited here and credited with a 100% pass. Cains, Hancocks HB and Marstons EPA are common, almost regulars. There are also the usual Smoothflows, Lagers and Ciders available from the two bar areas. I visit this pub late afternoon so I'm not referring to Friday and Saturday nights here, but this is a well run pub, nice and quiet, very welcoming and well worth a visit if you're in the area caskman21 - 28 Oct 2010 12:49 |
