Large chain-style pub near the Bear Pit - dropped in on the way to the harbourside after walking some distance without finding a pub. Beer was acceptable, food looked cheap and weatherspoons-like but didnt eat there. Outside seatin area was packed (warm evening) and inside was boiling - managed to find a seat with a draft near to the side door. Above the door was a sign threatening that anyone found with drugs or weapons on the premises would be reported to the police - hardly welcoming (and suggests that there are drug and weapon problems there). Toilets were, frankly, grim. Graffiti and mould on the walls, and evidently hadn't been cleaned in a while. Ok on a sunny afternoon, but didnt look like a "safe" pub for a late evening drink. pubscouter - 20 Jul 2014 13:31 |
Not much to distinguise it from many similar city centre establishments. 10pm on a midweek evening and it was pretty quiet. Still better than waiting at the bus station fiveleaves41 - 27 Jun 2013 11:44 |
Large pub conveniently situated for both Broadmead and the bus station. The emphasis seems to be very much on cheap food, with flyers all over the place offering various deals, such as curry clubs, grill clubs, burger and pint for 4.99, two meals for 5.00, etc. Top quality nosh then. Its well presented, perhaps refurbished recently, and does what it aims to do well enough. Its not really somewhere youre going to while away an evening though. Theres a bank of four fruit machines opposite the bar, and a plasma showing football. Various posters advertising the world cup as well. Beers on offer were Adnams Southwold and Hobgoblin. Ciders were a rather uninspiring Blackthorn and Strongbow. Blackthorn - 13 May 2010 10:13 |
Very busy in here. Had a couple of pints of Hobgoblin at a not bad price, and in good nick. Pleasant staff, good atmosphere. Good waiting room for the bus. The_Final_Arbiter - 27 Feb 2010 11:57 |
