Wendy has made yhis an amazing pub in the last year. Wayne now runs the Dicehearts on the Greenfield to Stalybridge road.

Very good pub. 5 min walk down hill from station, good, well kept ale selection very reasonably priced and pleasant decor and atmosphere. On a par with Railway Hotel, if you visit just two pubs in Greenfield, make this one of them!

The Wellington Inn (The Welly) Greenfield was bought earlier this year as a free house by Wayne Rawstron and his partner Wendy. If you are familiar with the Saddleworth area you may know them from the Cross Keys Uppermill and before that the King William IV (King Bill) Greenfield.
I have called in a few times since they opened and observed with interest their refurbishment of this fairly tired old pub. Lots of the alterations are very much work in progress but Wayne is doing a good job introducing some real cask ales and is trying some of the best. He has a target of seven real ales a Cider and the usual Lagers. The kitchen is under construction with appliances being delivered daily. When the kitchen is complete Wayne will offer the terrific fare he offered at The Cross Keys at the same amazing prices. There has been a recent delivery of several pews, yes pews! From the recently closed Diggle church which should provide more than enough seating. Although I dont think prayer meetings are on the agenda, however I am informed, on a tongue in cheek basis, that the kitchen will be complete in 3 weeks I am looking forward to the opening and cannot wait to sample food. (Real proper chips)
Only 7 out of 10 till kitchen is up and running
I will report so Watch this space

Scratch my review of 10 Apr 2008 - I was sure I'd posted that review for the Clarence up the road, which is a great pub! The Welli is an odd one, I tend to pass through it on the way to eslewhere, and there is a lack of cask on the bar. Having said that it's not terrible, it's just not great in comparison to some of the other pubs in Greenfield and in the wider area.
