Excellent. Great ale, friendly bar man, good character, and great views out the window! Well worth a visit. Stevo_de_la_hayes - 19 Sep 2013 18:28 |
A decent pub across the road from the station. We started our rail ale trail here and it set us off on a good footing. 6 cask ales available, no complaints. alexw - 28 Oct 2012 19:05 |
Went here on a Sunday afternoon to watch the football and drink some real ale - wasn't disappointed with the choice and quality of the beer. Had Millstone "Tiger Rut", Moorhouses "Blonde Witch" and Copper Dragon "Golden Pippin" and were all fantastic. Great place to visit for a change from the city and easy to get too. Had a great Sunday afternoon there. Superb pints of Tiger Rut, excellent sandwich, live band, friendly mixed clientele and good bar staff. comments about slightly worn decor (which add to the character of the pub) are irrelevant when all the best things about a pub are in place. We'll be returning there as soon as possible. Decent public transport links on the doorstep are a bonus too. lesandy - 22 Aug 2011 13:01 |
Actually the Railway is now very tired inside, fake beams on the walls with painted rough plaster in between - you know the theme. Wires everywhere in the music half, pool bit is really tired. Atmosphere seems good with decent clientele but they do get the odd rough ones in (full Adidas tracksuit in 2011? Get a grip!) They seem to be sticking with regulars Golden Pippin, Deuchars, Bombadier and Tiger Rut, plus a guest or two. You don't often get chance to make a direct comparison but we did tonight - I've thought before that the Tiger Rut's nice here, which it is, but it's twice as nice at the Rising Sun up the road in Mossley. The Old Pec was syrupy tasteless crap but then Old Pec is these days. Only real good thing is the live music on Fridays - bring your axe and have a go; it's a good atmosphere. If the continually-slamming front doors don't drive you mad. Otherwise, go somewhere else. Richardhuddleston - 22 Jan 2011 23:30 |
