It's always great to come across an uncomplicated backstreet boozer in a tourist town and this is the archetype albeit with a well above average range of ales (mainly from Lincolnshire's Bateman's Brewery and impeccably kept). Activities advertised above the bar include pub walks, barbecues and quizzes - all adding up to a super community pub. Apart from my Bateman's Gold, my partner in crime enjoyed a half of Oakham's JHB. BoehmBawerk - 30 May 2016 11:18 |
The Dog and Bone in Lincoln is with out a doubt one of the best pubs that I have ever been to. We were enjoying a day out in Lincoln on Saturday and, being conscientious and clever types we did a bit of research and decided upon the Dog and Bone as our lunch time watering hole. The pub was not, as the guide stated, at the north west corner of the cathedral complex, but some 10 minutes walk (I know, it could have been worse), far from the main drag in a neighbourhood reminiscent of Coronation Street. Tucked away down a small, residential road it would be easy to miss. Having found it though, more fool you should you chose to walk on by! The front door leads you in a very comfortable lounge bar. Book shelves dominate this space crammed with everything from Mills and Boon to the OED. Round the other side of the bar one finds four excellent beers, and a quality pint of Bateman's. Definitely one for the todo list. Palealer69 - 19 Apr 2015 05:34 |
Tucked away in an unremarkable backstreet in a slightly neglected part of town, this has always been a great pub. Having visited for the first time in a decade it was great to see that if anything it is even better these days. Beautifully kept Bateman's beer, a cosy and relaxing atmosphere, lovely beer garden and very pleasant staff. A fine pub in a fine city for pubs. strangetorpor - 21 Apr 2013 12:49 |
Batemans pub with guest ales in the backstreets of Lincoln. It's a fairly small pub and was very quiet on our Saturday afternoon visit. They were just concluding a beer festival. Moorhouses White Mist, Batemans XXXB & XB, York Red Hot, Derby Triple Hop & Black Sheep were the ales. Westons Celebration Cider was also on. Nice enough pub that is worth the walk from the centre. blue_scrumpy - 29 Jul 2012 18:33 |
Didn't realise that this pub had won CAMRA community pub of the year before visiting it. Can see why it did. The beer was well kept and the 2 roomed pub was cosy with 2 blazing fires and everything everything polished and ship-shape without being sterile and antiseptic. The beer was well kept - Batemans - and although we didn't have time to try the food there was a good choice and it looked ok. Well worth the walk out of Lincoln centre - quite pleasant to walk up by the waterside too. chick - 25 Dec 2009 10:42 |
