Very nice and smart interior to this place. Had two serving and it was only just gone mid day. 3 hand pulls, GK IPA, Abbott and Sharps Doom Bar which was very nice and cost me 2.70 which included 20p off for CAMRA card holders (10p off a half) In fact it was so nice I had another. bjbrummiejohn - 22 May 2012 08:10 |
Nice food when they havent run out of anything, which seems to be all the time. Never see the Manager, only the staff that seem to be running around doing everything. Been in there a couple of times, but wont eat there. Cheesecake came out warm, obviosly been deffrosted in the microwave. Wouldnt suggest that any1 eats there if they dont want food poisoning. Reviews below are massively out of date - what was once the Pilgrim (know as the Grim, with good reason!) has had more than a simple facelift and a chamge of name... Went in there once with my lady when it was the Grim, and vowed never to go back. Still went occasionally with footie inclined mates but that was about it. I've moved nearer the pub now, and was interested to see how it would turn out when it closed for a major refurb. The pool tables have gone, and the sports screens are smaller - but sport is still available, albeit at a lower volume. The biggest changes have been: - the introduction of an over 21s policy and an extra few pence on a pint - which has seen off the kids and the skanks. Families with young kids still seem to be allowed in though, or at least have been during the summer - tub chains and nice decor, including new loos - a heated and covered outdoor patio area - new cellar systems (really decent pint in there now and good wine list) - coffee machine - vastly improved menu - more attention to detail on service etc From a pub I won't go to unless it was to shout at a telly, it is now my favourites in the town. The girlfriend is not only happy to go there, but even suggested we take her folks there for Sunday lunch last time they visited. Now that's progress! BeerFish - 3 Sep 2008 15:43 |
Great pub with lovely large garden for summer drinking. Currently closed for refurbishment. Good hearty food at very reasonable prices. Will update after refurb, but looking in, seems like its going to be one of the best places to go in town!! anonymous - 9 Aug 2007 15:28 |
Only go there lunchtime, so comments may well not hold true in evening : staff very pleasant indeed and very competent (don't always get both...) : Quiz machine, fruit machines, pool table : large garden with reasonable cover for smokers : food appears to be of the type that you drown in tomato ketchup, but in fairness that could be the clientle, or are pretty friendly : quite a lot of solo drinkers (like me) who will politely say hallo but otherwise not interrupt you reading the paper in your lunch break : can't ask for more than that. Single women will not be harrassed : quiet and peaceful : Currently being refurbed, will report back in 2 weeks or so. imccolm - 6 Aug 2007 13:52 |
