Efficient barman, 3 handpumps but only 1 ale on, Draught Bass [not bad], pub was quiet on our friday night visit. alehippy - 26 Sep 2018 18:27 |
Building of character, barman was friendly, beer garden at the back. Bass on cask, basic beer but well kept. alehippy - 15 Sep 2017 15:53 |
Dropped in here as it's one of the few pubs singled-out for a mention in the guide to the town and the wall paintings sounded interesting. What a disappointment - only one real ale (the ubiquitous Doom Bar), unnecessary anonymous vaguely-dubby piped musak, and done up in the sort of comfy lounge-bar way that unimaginative pubco's think will appeal to tourists. Shame - it's a lovely old building and could be so much better. Go to the Three Fishes or the Loggerheads to see how it's done! E17Bee - 29 Mar 2014 09:53 |
on my way past to a real ale pub ( the salopian) i thought i would have a look and my i was surprised , we ended up having lunch of slinky sausage ( as the monument down the road is called the slinky) , local meats ,well priced , local produce , fresh and hot . I only drink real ale and was surprised to see a black sheep on the tap , nice and clean , tasty bar maid ,, i highly reccommend as i heard that it was new landlady gobbly - 22 Jan 2013 20:13 |
First port of call in my short recent short visit to Shrewsbury. From the outside it looked really enticing, as the old tudor style paneling promised a old worldy feel. Sadly once inside that's where it went wrong. It looks like they've modernised it to a fashion. In doing so they have taken all of its potential charm away. As regards the beer offerings they lacked any imagination. A paltry three handpumps; two of them being Bombardier and the other a Spitfire. Although I didn't try the food the menu looked very reasonable. realalerules1983 - 22 Sep 2012 16:32 |
