Found the service on the balcony fine. Sierra nevada was well presented and tasted good. The Guinness, however, was lacking in a head! Nevertheless, 'buzzing' with atmosphere and young people enjoying themselves! almost_an_old_git - 13 Apr 2009 16:20 |
Great little bar with a literary past. Alcoves, quirky seats, upstairs bar, interesting things on the walls. Barmans middle name should be "Lethargic" though. Tip or not no-one gets served quickly. Still come back for more though. ROBCamra - 21 Jan 2009 14:57 |
Home of the Beats and still an iconic San Franciscan location, practically adjacent to the superlative City Lights Bookstore in the Italian neighbourhood of North Beach. A slightly unimpressive beer selection is a downside, but the place still has bags of character despite the tourists. The upper level has the house's best seats. BoehmBawerk - 3 Jan 2009 07:40 |
The Beats used to drink here. The thought alone of Ginsberg, Karouac, Cassidy et al, getting pissed up here is reason enough to visit. It doesn't get by on nostalgia alone though. The walls are adorned with rococo-esque clutter and a level of upstairs seating looks both down upon the bar below and out onto street. This ,being at the heart of North Beach night life, is a good thing. Good for: Meeting friends for preliminary drinks James - [email protected] - 24 Mar 2004 13:39 |
