O dear - a lovely building spoiled by the diffident service, Greene King IPA, banging commercial dance music and big screens of Theme Park Britain. The interior is also fine and there is plenty of room to drink outside too but the locals were oiled and chanting when we arrived at the culmination of a 13 mile stroll along the Grand Union Canal. A pint of Black Sheep was OK though. Changed ownership required. BoehmBawerk - 18 Aug 2013 20:12 |
Visited this pub on a Sunday Lunchtime. Olde Worlde very pleasant atmosphere. It was very busy which was a good sign. 6 cask conditioned ales on Including Greene King - Abbott and IPA, and Tribute. I stuck with the Tribute. Full roast dinner at 5.95 I thought very reasonable. There was a choice of Pork, chicken, or beef. There was a short wait for a table which I always see as a good sign. The staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating despite the pub being extremely busy Rhode_Runner - 22 Oct 2012 10:50 |
Article in Private Eye (Issue 1301 - Nov 2011) "Sinking of the Royal Oak", suggests dear old Enterpise Inns made it impossible for Elliotts, the (possibly naive) landlords, to make a living when they bought the lease for 70k in 2008: rent was 48k per year - beer and cider prices sky high and turnover much lower. No idea if current landlords are suffering under the same system. Lets hope that the promised Select Committee can bring some sense to the industry. Beer_Hound - 14 Jan 2012 14:39 |
Total waste of time. The menu on website was not the same as presented at the pub - inside is dingy and dark with poor slow service, food (frozen microwaved) fish and chips (cool hard from frozen) and peas (hard cool and dry) no condiments on table or offered found some in a corner. Dont bother eating here - drive to Toby Carvery and get some decent hot food nearby don1982 - 19 Jan 2010 18:49 |
Welcoming Pub with good 'home cooking'. Hand pumped beers kept & served well. Guinness also well dispensed. almost_an_old_git - 16 Mar 2009 09:00 |
