Pretty busy but soon served. Nice Greene King IPA and even better Abbot. Friendly atmosphere with mix of locals and visitors from other pubs. Food looked good Holy_Bob - 2 Mar 2017 17:39 |
I visited this pub recently... last week before reading this site. I decided to have a look online subsequent to my visit and well... the last review...really did not cut it for me... so I posted my own. It remains only my view but I certainly did not feel the need to describe anything I saw so graphically as the seemingly uninformed user who visited twice in two years and commented on nowhere else ;-) . So I will elaborate and give hopefully a more insightful point of view. The bar staff I met were polite and helpful, the drink (Abbot Ale) was very good, the food was exactly what I paid for and enjoyable and the venue was.... a modern version of a traditional pub, in fact I quite liked it. It was brighter than I may like a pub to be but it was clean, the toilets (contrary to the previous statement) were VERY nice, clean and without the ubiquitous pub pong! There was a reasonable selection of ales, I would have liked a few more from outside the Greene King Estate but the Ale I had (Twice if I am honest) was most palatable. Unlike the previous, I did not make it to the garden and stayed in the lower bar area, it had comfortable seats and conversation with the locals was nice and I liked it enough to come back and see them again if I was in the area... unfortunately I rarely am and so am unlikely to visit this friendly and appealing pub in the future. One thing though, the newspapers on the lower bar were yesterday's news - keep on the special touches chaps, I like them but they need to be consistent! GreybutGreat - 4 Nov 2014 21:14 |
So i posted a comment a couple of years back the last time a visited the Rose & Crown. Well i went back a few weeks ago and I;m sorry to say, its got even worse. How you can fit any more scum into a small pub is a mystery. This wasn't a Saturday night, but Tuesday day-time. There must have been over 10 completely wasted people being served while clearly unable to stand or speak. The tall dirty barman is still there, taking the money from their pockets to pay for the beer as they were unable to function correctly to hand over the cash...surely this is illegal to serve someone this drunk?? We headed through the pub to the beer garden as it was a nice day. As we'd seen the new menu, we thought we'd give it a try. Still a massive let down, frozen food that's bland and put together with very little care. The Guinness was stale, no other way around it. Clearly it hasn't been well looked after. I thought that maybe the first pint of the day pulled, but i noticed others drinking it before mine was poured. The toilets are still the most vile creation, resembling something born from the defecation of the anti-Christ. Oh and the way the regulars smoke in the front door as people walk in is disgusting. Safe to say that we'll never be coming back here. timo_77 - 6 Oct 2014 10:09 |
Nice and friendly pub with lots of people. Nice beer. Few weirdos plotted around like most pubs in this area. Very busy Saturday nights. Have not tried the food but looks like Brakes Brothers specials. Danny1955 - 4 Apr 2014 06:33 |
Apart from some of the regulars from the Travelers in here, the place was full of young suspicious looking characters. The Guinness was quite good and although I did not try any, they have a fairly decent menu and the food that I saw emerge from the kitchen looked very decent. Will keep an eye on this place.
